To take a page from DD's theory of music...
When I write, I don't try to write a song, but tell a story of surfers
carving up huge, crashing waves, a day in the life of the, "Electric
Marlin," ala Insect Surfers or experiencing an African tribe preparing for
war or something. Dick would say he would play the rythym patterns of drums
on his guitar. The point is creativity and that is what we lack when we are
stuck in our song writing. Stretch your mind and get out of the box.
In my opinion, Dave from Slacktone is the master of melody...
