Re: [SurfGuitar101]Ric bass/ Mosrite bass

DP (noetical1) - 07 Feb 2005 11:36:20

"The neck reminded me of a Mosrite"
Rickenbacker necks are very Mosrite-y...fast and smooth.
The 4001 and 4005 basses in particular have fast fast fast
necks...the diameter is relatively small, and the finish is
superb.
I agree with your asssessment re: the Ric tone. The Ric
bass pickups are extra trble-y and bright...they also
produce a distinct "click" and "growl"...I think Ric
designed their pickups to enhance bass articulation, and I
also think they were competing with Fender and Danelectro
for the "studio bass" title...back then "tic-tac" bass was
huge.
Although Ric produces a fine bass, in surf it's tone is
quite overpowering. The Mosrite Bass, on the other hand,
is surprisingly weak toned...
