Well...I agree too...but for different reasons...
music is a language of the mind...but it is a language (for
the most part) "of the ears"...so to speak...
music is not the language "of the eyes"...not for me,at
least...not like words and novels and poems and
paintings...
music is a physical activity, sort of like dancing and
akido and kung fu...can you really learn that stuff by
reading?
you can get tips and discuss ideas, but the actual learning
takes place in the "doing" phase...
so, in my opinion...learning surf music means teaching your
ears to discern, your fingers and arms dexterity, your mind
rhythm and melody...and you must teach your soul a thing or
two also...man, you'll never get any of that by simply
relying on tab...tab is cool to take notes, or to get
started...but the real magic happens when you pull out the
"play guitar with the ventures" (the old copy that's
missing the vetures-tab) and really start listening and
attempting to understand...
