Induct Link Wray!

Surf Guitar 101 nation, I would like to inform you all of a new site I have begun devoted to getting Link Wray inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This is long overdue! We might still be listening to Sh- Boom had Link not come along. Link and so many others from the surf/instro genre belong there. Let's draw attention to our favorite music and get those corporate bastards to take notice. I will forward every 500 signatures to the hall. Eric

I happen to like Sh-Boom. Love Link, but no signiture for you. Especially since trying to get somebody into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is pretty lame anyways. Does it make their music or legacy any better? No, and I just went to the website, which includes a dig at the Everly Brothers. Not cool.

That's crazy Ron. No one person speaks for the entire site. You disagree with one member so you ditch the whole forum?

You're right Brian....you know, i was looking for something to read and saw the story of Links induction prospect and was thinking how hard it would be to get him inducted considering how long and hard it was to get The Ventures in there so i clicked on the story and was going to show my support when i saw the comment from Jake and...i don't know...if i can use a quote from Mike Tyson..."I just snapped". I was shaking with resentment at his comment and it took me a good 5 minutes before deciding to post my comment. Even after writing it i sat and looked at it for a good while before hitting the Ok! button. I don't know, my mom taught us to say "please" and "thank you" and "yes sir" and "yes mam" and to treat everyone with respect. She said we should treat people the way we would want to be treated....all old school stuff. Some of these young guys just get me fired up i guess and hey, maybe that's good....it would be a pretty boring world if we all did, and said, the same things....bottom line..."i just snapped"!! and you're right, in that no one person speaks for the entire site so i'm not ditching SG101....it's one of my favorite places to hang out and in fact, i'm addicted to this place and i've just got to remember another thing mom used to say..."if you don't have anything nice to say..then don't say anything". Maybe there should be a guitar battle...the old guys against the young 'uns!! Maybe i could kick Jakes ass with a flurry of smoldering surf licks...or... maybe he would make me shut up with a blistering glissandro into a medley of blazing guitar hooks from the 60's..."there take that you old guys...and Link Wray still aint gettin' my support"!! That would be cool. Maybe we could do it at Suzy's on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Thanks for listening. I've met too many great people here to bail and i've learned a lot about surf/instro music and the equipment it takes to create it. I just can't let some of these guys get under my skin.

Aloha,

R-R

The Thing thats Funny is Jake is a really nice guy and quiet and shy in person, but on the site he says lots of stuff that bugs some of us.

but its all opinions,

I know I say stuff, that some people prob don't like also.

we all just need to bite our tongue a bit now and then.

as for Link in the RnR HOF.

we all know that the place is a Joke,

but I would rather see Link in there instead of some disco or jazz music, so give the guy a minute and sign his petition.

its for a good cause.

Link has my support, he just doesn't have it from the guy who created this petition. 1.) a petition has no chance of getting Link Wray into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and 2.) this guy went about it in the wrong fashion.

It makes no difference if Link is in the Hall of Fame. His music is still available to us. It will be as timeless after it is inducted than it is now or ever has been. The Hall of Fame has zero credibility. It is all a corporate shill. I'd rather not have anybody I like exploited by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Read my post again, I said nothing against Link Wray. It was a judgment on how the guy who created the petition is handling the process.

Jake what's wrong with the way this guy is trying to get Link in the Hall?Every comment is being saved, and then sent to the hall committee.explain to me how that's wrong, and please tell us how to go about it the right way.The RRHF may not be a accurate depiction of what the it really should be about, but to induct Link Wray is a step in the right direction don't you think?

He is saying that Link is more worthy other artists such as the Chords and Everly Brothers. You let Link's accomplishments speak for themselves. You do not say Link is better than the Chords or Everly Brothers so vote for him.

Well Link Is better than the freakin' Everly Brothers, and the Chords. If you don't realize this your totally out to lunch my friend.I'm mean really! What site do you think your on?

Good argument...I would argue that I prefer the timeless melodies of the Everly Brothers over Link's less melodic powerful guitar playing. But everybody gets a little something different out of every type of music so it is rather pointless to say I am "out to lunch" for not realizing Link is better than the Everly Brothers. Of course one can never prove that Link is better than the Everly Brothers. Both created amazing music in completely different styles.

Also, I am on Surf Guitar 101. Link is not a surf guitarist just to let you in on a little secret. Instrumental, yes. Surf, not even close.

I'm going to address this comment one more time. Please read your post again. At no point do you attempt anything resembling reason or intelligence. Please refrain from posting again until you can put together a decisive sentence. You know, I'd even go for coherent.

Sorry to offend you Jake. I was just trying to make a point at how influential Link's music was and what was happening in Rock at the time Link was charting songs.

Sorry to offend you Jake, I was only trying to point out how influential Link's music has been. Also I was attempting to illustrate what was happening in rock at the time Link was charting songs. I think perhaps you should view more of the site to fully understand where I am coming from. Link's music does speak for itself and now his fan base can have a voice too.The Rock Hall needs to hear that 1,000s of us believe he deserves induction!
