Being in recovery now myself for 10 years, 4 months, I certainly feel this deep in my soul. My heart goes out to those who have to bear the pain of this loss. My Daughter is 19, back from college (first year), and I pray she stays 'out of trouble' every day. Had lunch with her today, and know she has false IDs like so many kids have. I beg her to 'be careful'. Godspeed to the soul of Colin. It hurts just thinking about this tragedy. UNSTEADY FREDDIE

Oh, man, so very sorry.

These superdrugs out now are are pernicious blight on youth. It saddens me greatly all of this. I thought we had learned from the 1970s, yet apparently not.

Mahalo to you all for the gracious comments. This has been read 110 times which is GREAT and it's just what the Mathews family wanted.

I'll make sure that they see this. Their grief is unimaginable but Conrad has not missed a gig yet!! Why? It's the best therapy and he needs his buddies right now. I'm not so sure i could keep playing!! He's a champion!

Thanks again and a big Aloha,

The TO's

Having lost my son tragically at 22 years of age I really feel for you guys. My son having suffered for years with muscular dystrophy was placed on Oxycontin during his last few days on this earth. At the time he was in so much pain it was the only thing that gave him relief but to take it for any other reason is ludicrous. This is not the first time I have heard of myspace creating havoc with kids. Most recently a child molester was arrested as a result of his conversations on myspace with a 12 year old girl he was trying to lure into his den. I think in these times none of us can afford the luxury of giving our kids much of any privacy and that's a real shame. When I was your sons age in the 60's I would never have dreamed of taking anything but then I was afraid if my parents found out they'd kill me. Times are very different now and kids are more vulnerable than ever. From your sons untimely death comes a message of loving concern to open even more doors than you guys did and get in the kids faces to save them from themselves. I personally will be talking to my 17 year old nephew and many others to make them aware of the potential dangers. In honor of your son we on sg101 should make it a point to share this with everyone we know. Despite the tremendous loss, thank you for sharing this with all of us as I'm sure you aren't the only ones out of this loop. Praying for your healing. God speed. Wow Linda....I hate to wimp out but your story brought tears to my eyes....of course we're very sorry about your son....and we're doing everything we can to draw attention to this abuse. I'll make sure that the Mathews family reads all of these. Thanks again everyone for your comments and even though we're far, far away from you all...we still feel like we're a part of the surf music community and what an honor it is for us.

Hey....keep an eye on your kids in this "new world" OK? OK.
