It keeps showing up in this song I'm learning by Bright Eyes called First Day of My Life.

It must be some variation of D minor but I have no idea how to play it.

It is not a note, it is a chord.
"Sus 2" means you add the 2d (in this case E) to your D minor chord.
One way of playing it would be like this: X57755

I think it actually means substituting the 2nd for the 3rd - I don't think sus2 or sus4 chords have a 3rd in them. So, you're not adding the second, you're subsituting it for the 3rd.
