Good luck, folks will be watching for you.
What did you use when you laid First Wave down?

The Twins reverb return loop through a tubescreamer then into the normal channel. Just like in the video I post on the previous page. Adding the TS makes a huge difference.

Advice taken. Nothing like a good demonstration to point out it's weaknesses.

I hereby resolve that when someone once again asks a question about this pedal, and someone surely will, I will send a PM containing this link to the - so far - 39 pages of posts about it.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Incorporated your link into the wiki with a specific mention of this pedal.

Mmmh, sounds more like a weak amp to me. Which amp are you using?

The amp in that show wasn't so good indeed. It was some solidstate marshall if I recall correctly. But I had the same problem in another show, where I used an old 70s all tube silverface fender combo (twin perhaps)

Have you tried a boost or overdrive in front of your reverb?

Yes I have. But I also believe that "less is more". By that I mean that the more the pedals, the higher the affection on the signal. Nothing beats the sound of a directly plugged in guitar straight into the amp, so I avoid many pedals.

I have tried placing a ts9 or a rat in example.
At first, perhaps because the sound seemed "fatter" and different, I enjoyed it. But later on when I heard the rehearsals or the shows, recorded and compared them to the ones where I was directly plugged in, it wasn't so good.

I still think it's the amp, not the pedal. There's a reason most of us play Bassman/Bandmaster/Showman amps with huge cabs. You cut through the mix like a lightsabre through butter. But using different amps which might not be suited for this kind of music and pointing the finger at the pedal for an unsatisfying sound? C'mon. Give that FRV-1 a break. Even a real tank won't make a solid state Marshall surf, IMO

The Hicadoolas

You are right, obviously. But as I mentioned before I had the same problem the second time I tried it with an all tube 70s fender combo (maybe twin).

I also blame this amp for the weak sound, not the pedal in the first place Wink SF Twins (and I've played one for more than 10 years) are most likely not what you have in mind when you think of your 'dream surf tone'. While they are good allround amps and take most pedals well, they still don't stand a chance against a BF amp with the right speaker/cab, IMO. Good amps. Lot's have been heavily modified. Different circuits within the SF era - some sound good, some don't. Try the pedal with an amp that sounds good with a tank, if you get the chance. That's the only way to compare it.
The 'thinned out' sound is somewhat in the nature of the effect. Even a tank will slightly distort your signal and the further you crank the mix, the more low end you'll loose.

recently bought Boss Frv-1 and am very happy, it sounds better than the reverb in Fender deluxe reverb, now I have surf sound!
