short recap,
Jamie, thanks for the great review.
and for the many kind words, you are most welcome for the crash pad.
and if I can afford it, I will make it out to Atlanta 1 day.
surf fest, trader vics, and Varsity burger keep calling my name.
Norm, please let Kate know that it is not a 100% sausage fest, that there was at least 40 or so ladies there for the convention.
shocking I know.
Yes I really want to make sure that for next year, that people will have plenty of time to get together and talk, and not be completely swamped by music.
so there will be the thurs BBQ at my place, starting around 3 or so.
so when we announce the dates for shows, please make plans for 1 or 2 more days ahead of time, for travel and the BBQ,
and the convention itself will have a bit more time between bands,
and also a BIG before and after hang out time/place.
more details later,
Ran, Hopefully you will be able to take off the thurs or plan ahead to be the bartender for the BBQ. especially since I hardly got any of yer drinks at Oasis.

Here's a thought:
What if next year you schedule SG101 to be either the weekend before or after TO? That way, people from out of town (like myself) could take in both and only have to take a week, or a little over, off work.
I realize it would be tougher on people like Jeff who has to work both weekends back-to-back, but the benefit is you'd get more out-of-town people (like me) or bands, who could piggy-back both festivals.

Before I forget once again, I just wanted to say, Jeff, how much I appreciated your taking the extra time to frame all your excellent advice in blank verse or haiku or whatever it was. I found the passage about the Starting Gate particularly moving, and I definitely took all this advice to heart. In my experience it is spot on. This should be posted every year!
BTD
...
give yourself double the amount of time, to drive there,
and then find parking.
if you get somewhere early,
relax, and know that you were smart,
and took extra time, to save hassle,
and not have a headache of being stuck in traffic or driving in circles
looking for parking.
for the HB pier show on Sunday.
if the parking lots are full, just go inland about 5 or6 blocks, and
make sure there are no, No parking signs,
then walk down to the Beach,
it will take awhile for the walk,
but if your in a parking structure, on the top floor
it will take you forever to get out, and go to Dons.
as for the Starting Gate in Los ALamitos
there are 200 or so parking spots,
in back and in front,
if those are full, park across the street in the 24 hour fitness lot,
but at your own risk, not sure if they tow,
there is a neighborhood behind the starting gate.
maybe you can park there and walk around past the 76 gas station
and to the starting gate.

William Shatner should recite Jeff's poem with beatnik stand-up bass and bongo players accompanying him.

Maybe it's just me, but I really like jams (even when I'm not in them). So... would anyone besides me like to see more time devoted to the jam portion of the show?

Lessee...
+1 for the BBQ/get together
+1 for the Ran cocktail hour (still hoping for a signature SG101 drink/mug)
+1 for the extended jam, if we can manage to figure out where to put it. (this thing is going to be a full week long by the time we're done!!!!)
+1 for the SG101 learning sessions mentioned WAAAAAAAY back when.
+100 yet again for Jeff having the cojones to start planning the next one so soon!!!!

I think we could find a bassist and bongo player fairly easily, but I'm not sure Bill Shatner would be available for such a small Trek-los event. Who did that thing Goofy Footer Ho-dad? That's sort of what I was hearing.
On the whole, though, the "jam" stuff is probably more fun. so maybe we should just bag this idea, groovy as it is.

By way of reverse connection:
We know Los Straightjackets
They know Conan O'brian
He knows William Shatner...voila! we got the beatnik combo complete.
Gotta be careful with extending parts...it's a long day as it is. But I agree the "jam" is a very fun part.
