...The Astronauts, in a three hour session (from 2 pm until 5 pm), recorded the following tracks at the Club Baja in Denver, Colorado:
Surf Party
The Pier
Surf's You Right
Firewater
Surf Softly And Carry A Big Board
If they ever invent a time machine, I think this might on top of my list. Just imagine being there....
Ivan
PS The recording info obtained from the liner notes for the Astronauts' "Rarities" CD (Bear Family Records).

I have one of their CD's. Half is in the studio of surf music, the other half is at Club Baja & is non surf with vocals...

Yeah, I know Jeff, most people think the same thing. I guess they just went to the club, set up a portable two-track machine and knocked those five songs out. That does explain why they sound as muddy as they do. It would be surprising that a recording made at the RCA studio wouldn't be clearer than these five songs. If you compare their stuff recorded at the RCA studios to these five tracks, they're much clearer.
But hey, these tracks may not be recorded completely clearly, but what a sound anyway! Lots of really cool vintage ambiance, too...

I often think about travel back in time. The Astronauts in 1963 would be high on my list. Along with Dick Dale at the Rendezvous Ballroom.

Yes, as well as an Atlantics gig and a Fender IV show...
A Lively Ones gig would have been cool too. I bet they were something live.
