Should we try to get a bunch of people together and get some kind of discount on shipping? It would probably mean shipping them all to one poor dope's house and then distributing them from there.
I'm definitely buying one either way. Thoughts? Interest?
This is big news!

I'm in. Paypal verified. I could even be the poor dope lol. I think I'd want to keep a limit of reshipping to 25 or so though. Last I saw theres some 470 + members, an granted they aren't all going to buy one, but imagining my wife realizing we've just become the Surf USA Book shipping department with 100 books to ship might flip her out pretty good lol.
See what kind of interest it raises. Good idea

gonna buy it, but it doesn't make much sense to be in this scheme though.
that book, btw, is either one heavy mofo or shipping is outrageous. the former, probablty, 310 pages at A4
PS news like this spreading is one of the great things abpout this list, thanks!

This is great news! I'll definitely get it and might also pick up one or two of his other books to save on shipping.

I defintely want one. do we reply here or in the topic on the front page?
So is this going to replace John Blairs book, or should we still be on the lookout for oone of those by chance?
I'm not up on shipping rates of heavy stuff, just the J&tNR's cd's 1 at a time
how is that postage rate they have quoted?
how much of a deal do you think we could get if we ordered in bulk?
I'm wondering if the surf museum should buy some of these?
They used to have the John Blair book, I had some extra money about 4 years ago, went to the museum to buy the last one, and it was gone.
DOH!!!!

I do not get the impression this will replace John's book(s). They have different levels of detail and the focus is a bit different. Don't quote me on this, but last I heard John is still working on a new edition of his book. We may see him yet over here if he gets more time. (Cross your fingers everyone... )
Lets wait at least a week and see what the head count is on this. And then approach the publisher and see what they can do for us. I'm really surprised more haven't chimed in, but its only been 1 day. This is a big deal, people! You don't wanna be like me, who never picked up John's books, and now they are impossible to find.

This book might be what I've always wanted on the topic. Blair's book is good if you collect old 45s, and Dalley's has a lot of info on particular bands, but this one looks like it might have more of a narrative history. Don't know what you'll get on a combined order, but count me in.

I just got wholesale info for the book, thinking I might want to carry it in the Double Crown catalog/website. Unfortunately, there isn't much of a wholesale discount, and with shipping so expensive (it must be a heavy book) it'd actually cost more for me to order copies and then ship them from here (Bellingham, WA to customers). So it doesn't look like I'll be adding it to the catalog, but I'm definitely gonna look into ordering a copy for myself!

Thanks for that info Sean!!!
Looks like individual ordering may be the way to go at this point
If there was a half decent savings for bulk, but its the wieght of the book. It is over 300 pages so...
Either way its good news.
I'll be ordering mine seperatly, and paying the big ole shippin price.
Sadly it doesn't look like it'll work out for the group, but its still gonna be a fun book
Thanks for thinking of us Brian

Yes they are, along with a lot of other interesting books. Especially the Dick Dale one should appeal to many forum members I think.
http://www.garyusher.com/cmusic.html
This 100 page 8x10 glossy coloured covered book is the first and so far only biography of legendary Californian recording artist and surf music hero, Dick Dale. The period covered in this book encompasses Dale's entire career, from the early '50s and into the year 2000! Also included are 12 full pages of photos, plus a variety of other pages devoted to recording contracts and various memorabilia. A complete Dick Dale discography and a Del-Tone Records discography is included, together with a thorough index.

If the shipping really is a deal breaker, you might wait until it hits Japan. Sometimes ordering from Japan can be cheaper in the shipping department. Can be, not always...
