Hey I own a fender vibro-king and I am looking to find other users to discuss trials and tribulations with this amp. I am new to this forum but the reason that I am coming here because of this amp and my guitar (a jaguar). I am interested if anyone has done any modding to the reverb and such...
thanks a lot!

i rented one for awhile while my tank and showman were being serviced. I loved it, but it didn't nearly have the output and reverb i had hoped for! My biggest complaint was the thin 10' speaker tone.

I wouldn't say 10" speakers are thin sounding. More likely it is the amp or guitar. Especially if you are playing a Fender guitar.

There's already a few threads on Vibro Kings (and Dual Professionals) if you want to dig them up and put new life into them.

I find that the 2 twelve extension cab adds a lot of what you guys are describing that the vk lacks. i am thinking that the reverb is set up the way it is because of the amp is made to break up. plus the vibrato is different than that of a dp (dp being more brown face and vk being like that of a bf twin). thanks for the tube suggestions (in the other threads). i use a heavy gauged flat wound string jaguar so it really gets a classic thick surf sound. thanks' again

i can't remember if the reverb pan is suspended or is just attached in a bag to the bottom of the amp. if you can somehow suspend it, like a reveb tank, that would really help the amp out.

Really? I'm curious how so other than reducing sympathetic vibrations?

it is in a bag. and as well i think that i carries fewer springs than than the out board reverb as well there is not an "on/off"- it is always on.
what would suspending the tank do?
i think that i would be interested in getting the vk reverb more like the original but i think i understand why there might be a "choke" on it's intensity. after speaking to zinky on the phone i got the impression that he understood how it was less intense than the 63 rerverb but the amp is not made to only play clean (maybe like the dual professional). it is made to give you a lot of bite when you turn it up. the eq is passive so to give it more of a pure overdrive at lower volumes but that could be a problem (with feedback and such) when cranking the reverb as well... it has a huge transformer (one of the biggest fender has used) -adds to the weight and the speaker choice (alinico and 3 instead of 4) allows for more overdrive and
i find that the fat switch (talked about before on a discussion about this amp) engages a mid boost (not a volume boost) and this changes the sounds when using my specific guitar- a av jag.
anyway, i find that this amp is less like a "surf" amp and just a culmination of things that people loved in fender amps... a little tweed sound, interesting speaker configuation, a little black face sound and the reverb put in front (like an out board)....
who from the dual professional camp can comment on their amps? i know that one of the great things about these amps is that they are one of the only amps made by fender that are hand wired... i like that there were hands on this and that it is a modern amp instead of a reissue (nothing wrong with past but i like looking forward a little)....
anyway i am interested in the raising the reverb as well.
thanks' again

tank the pan out of your reverb unit and lay it flat on the floor.
