Permalink Hagstrom guitars?

New Topic

I'm gonna get a 60s Hagstrom II in blue in the near future. They're calling me.

The Pacifics - The Big Beat from Dublin

Evil Sons - Wild Two-Piece Trash

You never win with a bolt-on neck. Fender is the exception for certain reasons.

ate you joking?

Never surrender in finding a surfcaster

The modern Hagstroms are pretty good guitars for their price range. However, you can find some original ones for around the same price, or a little more, that are much cooler. I've owned a lot of old Hagstroms and two of the newer Vikings. The new Vikings did not compare favorably to the old Vikings.

Didn't Mark Arm from Mudhoney play a Hagstrom? What model was that?

Great looking Guitar Exclamation Great for the guy trying for something a little different.www.myspace.com/thethunderheads

Never tried an original Viking but I just got a new one and really like it.

I think you are right, I wouldn't mind trying one of those out, dont know how great it would do for surf, but it definately looks interesting.

Woodsurfer; kinda EZ to mix up. We have someone in here w/ a good Framus too...great whammy on it.

I've had this cool Hag. Jimmy D'Aquisto for some time. It's got a wood block under the bridge so it's solid enough for rock/blues. It's my non-surf guitar.

Yes. I owned a new-release Hagström Deluxe.

I ordered it from Thomann (European online dealer), so I didn't get the chance to test before buying.

Well..
It was the biggest piece of **** I ever saw.

The pickup selector cavity was FULL of wood shavings.
The string retainers before the bridge were screwed on by a drunk blind person. No, a drunk blind person would have done a much better job.
The truss rod rattled in the neck!
3 THREE of the machine-head mounting screw holes were stripped.
The metallic silver paint job was very patchy.

Otherwise it was OK.

I have a 1966 Hagstrom III that has been to hell and back, and I'm now in the process of restoring it. Gonna paint it a light blue and I hope the thing sounds decent with all the work it needs. The pickups and tremolo system look real cool, and the guitar gives off a surf vibe like a Teisco. From what I've read about old Hagstroms is that they were actually very good quality wise compared to the cheap japanese ones at the time. I can't wait until it's ready to play and I'll do a review.

Coincidence; since my last post someone laid a sunburst Hag III on me. [no frets, knock-off tuneamatic, mildew, etc.]
I've added frets and now a one pc. brass bridge of my own design. This thing is so twangy and smooth I've been doing the whole gig w/ it.

Careful w/ the pickup wires. Mine are epoxy potted and I was barely able to repair the middle one. Nice sounding pickups w/ larger pole magnets.

Yea mine used to be the sunburst but I stripped it since it was flaking like crazy (kinda like craigslist people :-P) . The original bridge is long gone so I got a jaguar bridge. The neck is so thin and the frets are really low compared to a modern guitar.
