Curious what people here think about this topic?
Are there any 3rd Wave original songs that have become standards amonst the surf community??
What songs should be standards??

I'm sure plenty are deserving of being standards, but the 90s were sort of a different time. If I were to make anything a standard it would be the entire album. I think that is how many people remember this wave of surf. Tsar Wars, Creature Feature, Locked and Loaded, Vs. the Doomsday Machine(and many more). Many great songs on each of them.
In the 60s, many of these songs were released as singles, and don't form as cohesive an album when all put together.
But, if I have to choose songs from the third wave that should be standards there is one that pops to mind above all others. Red Sunrise by the Cossacks. This song really solidified my fandom in the genre. Also, Surf Lyre by the Pilgrims was an important one. I don't think many people consider it a favorite of theirs, but to me it should be a standard.
Too much good stuff in the third wave. Albums full of standards.
Also, do we really need more surf "standards" that are played to death?

Surf tunes from the 90s that are "deserving of being standards"--that is really what I was aiming at with the thread.
I would personally include Satan's Pilgrims rendition of The Godfather in the bunch. Maybe LSJ's Rockula too.
And do we need standards that are played to death? Sure, the world always needs great songs.

2 songs off the top of my head,
Twitchin' by the Torquays, I've seen/heard at least 8 bands cover it.
including Jon and the Nightriders,
and Polaris by the Insect Surfers.
I've seen a few bands cover it,
it was on the Cowabunga box set, nuff said.

Every time I see that this new band called The Slacktones are playing I show up and its just the same ol Slacktone,
wish the booker and the bands could get this worked out.
