Our drummer made me a copy of Stampede CD from Jon and the Nightriders and I can't get the song "Special" out of my head I've musta listend to it 20 times the last two days. Did Jon Blair write that song. It sounds vaguely like Special by Garbage. Anyone know if its and original or cover.

Jon and company were covering Garbage for this song. Which seems very weird to me, but I like it!

Am I the only one who is thinking Dave plays lead guitar on this track?

Thanks, I suspected it but your right it did seem an odd choice of a song for them to cover. I think Dave is playing lead on it, it has that Slacktones octive & finger picking style that he injects into surf stuff very well.

Agreed, it was an odd choice. Great melody though. I barely remember that song from when it came out. I think I had that Garbage CD at one point. Garbage 2.0 was the name. I don't have it anymore and it would have been over 10 years ago. Not sure if it was mine or a friends that I maybe traded for.
Anyways, I still enjoy the song "I Think I'm Paranoid" whenever I hear it. They have the track for Rock Band so I play it when I am at a friends house.

Dave is definitely playing lead, I think it says so in the liner notes. No one else sounds like that.

John makes reference to it in the interview on our podcast. I don't remember the exact details but I think he describes why he chose that song.

Yeah, they picked "Special" and "Be my baby / Don't Worry Baby" to give Dave a showcase.

John Blair reissued STAMPEDE last year, see his site.
