Permalink Replacing the reverb tank of an Ampeg super jet

New Topic

Towards a better reverb in my rig, I'd like
to know the things I have to take into account
in order to replace the tank of my Ampeg Super
Jet with a bigger one (big accutronic tank).

http://www.zzounds.com/item--AMPSJ12T

The Ampeg comes with a small Belton reverb.

I know almost nothing about electronics. My questions:

What should I take into account in order to choose a
tank (impedance and so on)? I don't care about losing
gain, because it's a practice amp and it never reaches
the 1/3 of gain (my neighbours would kill me).

Is it dangerous to change it? I mean, for me or for the
amp.

Is it as simple as it seems (plug some jacks and bolt
it)?

Is it worth it? I know that the best shot is to buy a fender
unit, but it's so expensive and I am a newbie.
I am currently using a dano spring king together with
the reverb of the amp. Will the replacement improve the
rig? I am searching the dripping-thing, I guess that the
only way is the external reverb tank, and this improve
will not offer that, Am I rigth?

Thanks in advance!

Q

As far as I know old Hammond organ tanks work in Ampegs. Many prefer them to Accutronics. Gibbs era Hammond reverb spring assemblies can be found for under $20 on eBay.

I found something.

This guy used an Accutronics reverb (#4BB3C1B)

The reverb circut in an amp is more to blame than the tank itself. if you find the right tank impednce wise it prob will help a little but not get the total drip you seek.
your better saving your money for a tank. allways the best bet and if your gonna be surfing for a long time it will be a good investment.
