New Topic

I was approached by the Long Island City Community Boathouse to help find them an instrumental surf band for a benefit they call the 'Paddle Party'. It takes place on Thursday March 12 2009. I hooked them up with BONGO SURF from New Jersey, http://www.myspace.com/bongosurf.

Here is the low-down on the event,

UNSTEADY FREDDIE

_Dear Friends of LIC, NY Harbor, and the Environment,

We’d be thrilled if on March 12 you’d help us celebrate the LIC Community Boathouse’s gifts to our neighborhood, the city at large, and the renewal of our harbor and estuary! Please be part of the FUN and continuing success by coming to the 2009 Paddle Party at The Foundry
( http://www.thefoundry.info ), a gorgeous catering hall beside the Queensboro Bridge!

We will honor NYC Department of Parks and Recreation Commissioner for Queens, Dorothy Lewandowski for her work in founding the NYC Water Trail ( http://www.nycgovparks.org/facilities/kayak ) and the Newtown Creek Alliance ( http://www.newtowncreekalliance.org ) for its tireless work to rescue and revive a once thriving waterway.

Party info through this link:
http://licboathouse.org/party

Maybe you’ll donate an auction/raffle prize or party supply to promote your business? Better yet, boat sponsors have their company name emblazoned on our kayaks as they enliven our waterfront and voyage to neighborhoods throughout the harbor. At very least, come party and share the joys of summer anticipation with us!

We’ll have you bouncing and waving to Bongo Surf, with a special introduction by Unsteady Freddie! The groove will be threaded through the night by the beloved Billyburg boys, MC Travis and DJ Deputy Jeff! Thai food by Tuk Tuk and Italian by Manducatis Rustica! Scrumptious desserts by Sage American Kitchen! Drink tickets for fine wine (donated by Wine & Spirits Magazine and Blue Streak with more coming) and beer round out the taste sensations and auctions (a fabulous bike from Recycle-a-Bicycle, dinners at great restaurants, dance party tours aboard the Queen of Hearts, and more!), raffles, and surprises amp the FUN!

ABOUT THE LIC COMMUNITY BOATHOUSE:

The all-volunteer LIC Community Boathouse is a 501c3 nonprofit through the Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club network. Our mission is to provide FREE and inclusive access to our harbor and estuary, for recreation and education. As we enter our fifth summer of giving to the city and harbor communities, we’re more committed and excited than ever!

Some of our free programs include:

“Friday Night Chill Paddles”: A mellow sunset, skyline viewing.

“Saturday Adventures”: Challenging voyages across the harbor, whether circumnavigating Manhattan, or paddling from LIC to the Bronx River, City Island, DUMBO, Staten Island, or the Statue of Liberty. New adventures await!

“Sunday Walk Up Paddles”: Relaxed mini-tours within the safety of Hallets Cove in Astoria, launching from a NYC Parks beach administered by the renowned Socrates Sculpture Park.

“Water Weekedays”: Special programs for students and community groups (historical preservation and ecology themes and outings for active seniors and youth development) at Hallets Cove or on the Newtown Creek.

We have also provided program support and/or fundraising tours to the Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance, Manhattan Island Foundation, American Cancer Society, Swim Across America, Pink Paprika (breast cancer), Energy Visions, NYC Department of Parks and Recreation, Eastern Queens Alliance, Rockaways Waterfront Alliance, and many others.

We look forward to seeing you at the party on March 12 at 6PM at The Foundry, and throughout the summer on the water!

the PADDLE PARTY was a blast!

lots of people turned out for the fund raiser

I am thrilled I was asked to be part of this, and help bring a band to the event; having met the organizers, I am of the belief we will work together on other projects where surf music bands will be involved -- another door has opened!!

BONGO SURF from N.J. were wonderful

they played a bunch of shortened sets, in between the goings-on

I shot 2 videos BTW, and here they are:

'SPANISH BLUE', a tune originally recorded THE AQUA VELVETS

'THEME FROM ENDLESS SUMMER', made famous by THE SANDALS originally,
