Hey everyone. Maybe someone can help me.
When I was in college at Kansas State University, there was a touring surf band that played in the student union one evening. I don't remember the name of the band, but it was my first live surf experience and it was incredible. I remember it being very loud. Touring surf bands don't come through Kansas a lot, in fact it's very rare. I thought maybe someone here was in that band.
The year would have been '96 or maybe '97.
Thanks.

Dick Dale's Official Web Page archive of touring appearences only goes back to 2002.

But, two things, "very loud" and "unusually present" suggest it might have been him. Was he in his (until 2008) annual touring mode in 96 or 97?

I suspect you would have remembered if it was Dick Dale or Los Straitjackets.
But yeah, Bomboras, Man or Astro-Man?, and Satan's Pilgrims did a lot of crazy tours in the 90's.
Do you remember anything about the band, like how they dressed or what songs they played? Was it guitar, bass, drums, organ/keyboard, or...?

Yeah, I would've remembered if it was DD or Los Straitjackets. I don't think it was Satan's Pilgrims because I would've remembered that name. I don't think it was Man or Astro-Man either. It likely could have been the Bomboras because I remember one guy playing guitar for some songs and organ for others...which could be a lot of bands I guess. That's all I remember about instrumentation.

If it was that incredible you should have remembered it better.
I hate to sound like a D*ck,but how do you forget a band's name that moved you like you say.
And I'm considered a Gremmie! Please!

I hate to sound like a Dck, but you can't think of any* reasons that someone might not remember the name of a band from 12-13 years ago?

it's not like he'd think about the band or its name every single day of his life since then, it probably just slipped out of his memory. without buying merch to look back on, it's hard to remember a band's name after one time seeing them after that long. i think it's totally understandable to not remember...

We played in Lawrence and KC quite a few times but never Kansas State.
I wish I would have caught one of those shows...To see SP back in the heyday capes and all. Wow.
By the way, I love all the extra footage on the "best of" album. Was that you singing "Bird is the Word"?

Son, when we say, "he inhaled his beer," that's not what we mean.
Say ... how sure are you of the year? The keyboard-guitar switch off reminds me of something. If you'd have said 30 years earlier, it might have been the Revels. Wasn't it somewhere in Kansas where Sam Eddy's piano fell off the stage, confining him to the bass for the rest of the tour?
