Ahhh, Drive-Invasion 2006 was a BLAST, and I was delighted to meet a number of guys from this list out there on the burning blacktop.
I'll be posting some of my pictures here shortly. I hope the other members who were shooting stills and (especially) video will do likewise!

Anna Kramer
(Not surf by any means... but the second song in her set was an instro... So she's worth mentioning... A cover of The Rockin' Gypsy by Joe Maphis I think...)

What kind of guitar is Dr. Lehos playing? Anyone?
I wish I could've been there.

Oooooh, GREAT work, Fez!! I'm so glad you managed to snap the image of Johnny Knox "surfin'" on the blacktop as he clung to the side of that speeding truck. Anyone who wasn't there probably can't appreciate how wild and wreckless a stunt that was, as he used his tennis shoes to skim atop the slight accumulation of rainwater. Zany!!
I also am glad you posted that shot of Anna Kramer with that bizarro 12-string axe. (Saves me the trouble of posting my own virtually identical shot!) Dang if the little lady couldn't play the hell outa that thing.
I promise I'll add some of my own pix today or tomorrow....

Burns Marquee _ I suspect a recent cheaper one since it has a strat style trem, but I don 't know much specifics of burns guitars. I did see a new "hank Marvin special edition tribute" version or something along those lines recently for real in a store - absolutly yummie, but with a depressing price tag.
that weird 12string is a univox. I checked www.univox.org, they have it listed but don't know either what it is exactly.

The pictures of Blue Oyster Cult are in the gallery listed above...
There are also pictures of many of the other bands... including Supersuckers who played Godzilla by BOC... BOC's road manager was very pissed off about this and had them yanked a few minutes early...
Cheers!

That's hilarious. Good thing they didn't play "Don't Fear the Reaper"--the manager probably would have had the 'Suckers shot.

Okay, since you asked, here's a link to the Supersuckers and B.O.C. pictures taken by the event's official paid photographer (Frank Mullen, a bigtime ROLLING STONE shutterbug). I sure wish he'd been around to photograph some of the other bands!
I particularly like the fourth-from-the-bottom image, which shows the giant inflatable Godzilla atop the drive-in's snack bar.

Okay, here are some of my own pictures from Drive-Invasion 2006...
This image shows Johnny Knox playing with Cletis and His City Cuzzins on Saturday, a whole day before the El Capitan gig. That's Johnny with the Telecaster....

Here's another look at of The Ghastly Ones, who treated us to some wonderful instro action...
[image](http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/3750/mvc002fpr0.jpg)
The legendary wildman Johnny Legend introduces El Capitan. That's Jet Powers a-grinnin' there behind him.

El Capitan rips into their surf/spaghetti set....
[image](http://img102.imageshack.us/img102/5049/mvc012fki2.jpg)
Jet played acoustic on several numbers....
[image](http://img392.imageshack.us/img392/5340/mvc014fhl0.jpg)
I had to include a shot of Jet's unusual drinking vessel, filled with a mixture of Captain Morgan's rum and the blood from slain G.R.E.M.M.I.E. agents. (Check out the Clarkston Surf Fest '06 topic on this forum for a nice shot of Jet, toasting the event with this mug.)
[image](http://img392.imageshack.us/img392/6445/mvc015fpm6.jpg)
And finally a little eye-candy from The Gore-Gore Girls. (I love them 'cause they played Link Wray's "Baby Doll" on a tribute CD, although it wasn't part of this evening's set, alas.)
[image](http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/9445/mvc009ftv3.jpg)
Here's the Gore's drummer....

What are these things called 'film rolls" you write of?
And, for that matter, what is "developing"?
Don't you have a celphone/digicamera/life-scheduler-planner/gameboy/mp3 player yet?

Yeah, I do have a digital camera...but there's still nothing like a 1995 Kodak Cameo spooled up with 400 speed!

The Drive-Invasion was a blast and a BLUR! Eighteen bands over 2 days followed by classic (and not so classic) movies at night, plus special guests and cool cars!
Big props to the SG101ers who travelled for the event--great to see ya again Fez and MidwestsurfGuy, and great to meet Rockin' Rob!
It was also great to see and visit with The Ghastly Ones on Sat. They sounded spooktacular, especially once Dr. Lehos got his reverb tank prob fixed. The new CD is great, and the 7" single is just awesome--what fantastic cover art!
We (El Capitan) played Sunday from about 3:20 to 3:45--a fast and furious 9 songs. A little shaken, but not slurred from some Day 2 hangovers, but a rockin' good time none-the-less, and the crowd seemed to dig it.
The Drive-In marked our last show with the uber-talented Johnny Knox on bass--he made it clear from the get go that he was just filling in to help us get on our feet. So next for us is tracking down a new bass player. Then we'll see about doing normal band stuff like getting a myspace and recording at least some demos... No more gigs on the books right now.
I spoke with the Drive-In owners earlier this week, and they were thrilled with the whole event. They've booked at least one instro/surf band every Drive Invasion so far, and there's no reason to think that next year will be any different, so mark Labor Day 2007 on yer calendar now and come visit us in Hotlanta for Drive Invasion IX!!!

Hey, Jetster,
You oughta give Henry Watts (ex-Dragline) a tryout as a bassist.
BTW, Can you post your "cowbell" shot of Blue Oyster Cult for us, and share with the gang the story behind it?
