Well, I just ordered the JM40 (white fake Jazzmaster).
I'll give a full report after it arrives. I already have an extra set of flats to put on it.

Light Blue Metallic OR Vintage White? That is the question. Looks like a fun knock off. What pick up options did you guys choose? |

No, no.. I was saying which color should I choose. What pickup selection does your white model have? Looks like the only image they show is H/S/S |

The JM40 has two P90 knockoffs,Jazzmaster Bridge,Top Mount jack. The Pickguard is cut like a Warmoth Jazzmaster.8) —www.myspace.com/thethunderheads |

Yup, that's the one I ordered. The ones with the Strat trems weren't interesting to me. — |

Gotcha. Looks good - I wonder how those P90's sound. Either way, this could be a fun guitar to mod. |

Yeah, I'm curious about the P90s too. I suppose if I don't like them I could change them out for something else. Hopefully they're not too hot. — |

I am sure you could modify the pickguard to accept Jazzmaster pickups or have a custom guard made for JM pickups. That is, if they end up sounding like crap. |

I'm certainly don't have anywhere near the expertise that Zak has, but I was pretty happy with the fit and finish of my guitar as a beginning guitar player. I checked out other budget entry level guitars at various shops and I thought this one beat them. The frets were decently dressed and didn't shred my fingers like some of the ones I tried in the shops. Zak is right that the pickups are hot (I have the JM-10 SSS), but as I mentioned in an earlier post, putting on heavier flatwounds and backing off the volume control on the guitar helps. Now that I've upgraded to a tube amp, I'm actually pretty happy with the sound. —https://www.facebook.com/index.php?lh=9353f9155b5ff32e14c998495fd00da4&#!/rich.derksen.7 |

Mine just showed up in the mail. I'll try to post back in a few days with a clip or two and my impressions (which are worth very little, since I've never owned a Jazzmaster). — |

Quick preliminary review: very nice! The build quality is comparable to the higher end Squire guitars. No apparent flaws in the finish. Frets are medium, no sharp edges as far as I could tell. The vibrato works very well - nice and smooth. Pickups are a bit hot - definitely P90s, not JM pickups. Sounds good though. The fretboard radius is on the flat side - kind of Gibsonish. You should probably use a TOM with this if you wanted, or one of those roller bridges. — |
