Permalink HBKahuna's 3rd Annual Surf Jam

New Topic

For the 3rd year in a row, HBKahuna put on a surf jam the week of the NAMM convention. This years was even bigger than last years.

Since I don't remember everyone's names that were there, I won't insult anyone by forgetting to mention them. I'll leave the official roster to HBKahuna.

The studio where it was held was the same studio that The Madeira used when they filmed for "Sound of Surf" Very nice place!

There were 3 drums sets set up, and about 8 Showman amps, as well as 4-5 other amps too.

Seeing 15 guys all playing the same tune was killer! There were some real magic moments throughout the night, when everyone seemed to be on the same wavelength.

I got to see lots of friends from previous trips to CA, and met a bunch of new people too. AND, I got to carry John Blairs Showman! Laughing

you mean this Jam?

between that and the Geek fest,
my ears are seriously ringing.

Almost all the Strat guys also had a Jag or Jazzmaster as well. Neptune Tom and John Blair were the lone "Strat Only" holdouts.

Man oh man I missed a great weekend in So Cal! I wanted to get out there for the Surf Jam and Geek fest after making it the last 2 years but...............you know RTFM

Wow BTD, Chris and Maui, with all that going on, who needs the NAMM show? Pencil me in for next year!

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

I'll post the personnel as soon as I figure it out. We even had an active superior court judge show up & play.

Eddie,
we didn't go to the Namm show,
well at least I didn't.
Deke's show is not at or connected with the Namm show.
except for the fact that he does it the weekend of the Namm show as there are alot of people in town for that, and the Vintage guitar swap meet.
I was thinking it would be nice to do the SG101 event on the sunday.
but I figured too many surf people wouldnt be able to make it till summer.
the weather was nice all weekend, high 70's low 80's in the day.
low 60s or high 50s at night.
felt like summer to me.

Thanks for inviting us Tim! It was a blast, I was one of the few that did not bring a Showman. I brought my 64 fender concert which is like a bandmaster with 4X10's Tim thought that a Deluxe Reverb would be plenty so I doubled that... and was still on 7 the whole night! I don't think anyone heard me but it sure was fun! I'll see if my shots turned out and post soon!

Tim, Bruce McCoy and I came to the jam and it was quite a blast-fest. All those showman amps cranked up. Great Fun!

John Blair rippin it up and sweating up a storm as he used to.
it was great to hear him play again.
he was really loud, but not in a bad way.
just the perfect bloom point on the showman, and tons of reverb, but not too much. you could still here the note.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

It would have been better if people used the legs and tilted back the cabs. Was John playing a Black face showman? Is that another "strat guy" thing?
