I was listening to old tapes and heard the song "Gutterball" by the Goldtones, which is SOO cool. I've loved that song since I first heard it (when I originally thought it was just a souped up version of "Pipeline"). So does anyone know anything about it or the band? Is it available anywhere in any form? On any compilation? The only info I know of is Phil Dirt's review but I'd like to learn more, as it's a personal fave.

Gutterball is included on Diggin' Out, one of all times greatest surf music compilations, available from Crypt.

Klas, was 'Diggin Out' ever put out on CD, or is it only available on vinyl?

or the band?

The Goldtones were kids out of Riverside, CA ('61-'64) and they became the (garage) band the Answers and then the Misunderstood-heavy garage psyc.

Am I missing something here?

I thought that there was a band from Mid west USA in the 90's called the Golden tones they had 2 cd's

I must have forgot about the 60's Goldtones Embarassed whoops spelling mistake, I guess I didn't read very well, now I really feel stupid.

I thought it was just Glenn Ross Campbell that joined the Misunderstood. Either way, "Strike" and the Diggin' Out comp are amazing.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

Warren, you're absolutely right, I didn't think anybody would care but I should know better, esp. here!

Just got my copy of Diggin Out LP courtesy of Crypt Record - Klas is right, it kicks tuckus!

Sure looked young. Played like pros though.

I played in a band with Glenn Ross Cambell in '78. He's a great natural player, that had the biggest fatest tuned down lap steel guitar sound I ever had to go up against! "Gutterball" was record when Glenn was 15, I think. It was used in L.A. TV's "Bowling For Dollars" as the theme song, I've been told. When Jon & the Nightriders were recording "Charge of the Nightriders", Jon asked Glenn to come down to Goldstar studios to cut a new version of "Gutterball". The track didn't make it onto the LP, but Glenn did manage to horrify Stan Ross {studio owner/engineer}, and Shel Talmy{producer of Who, Kinks, J&N}, by eating dog food in the control room. His weeks pay had already been spent by the singer of the bar band he was in.

Aaaaw man. That would've been awesome.

The track exists, maybe it will show up someday.
