Stumbled across a deal too good to pass up today. The on board reverb sounds better than the reverb I get from my tank. This thing is amazing.

40 watts , 2 Channels, Reverb, Vibrato. 2x10 Jensen Alnico Speakers.
This amp has been professionally upgraded.
The Mark Moyer modifications have been done to this so that so this amp is stone quiet and has higher head room.
Reverb only on 1 channel as back to Vibroverb specs.
The reverb unit has been upgraded to the larger 3 spring type for bigger lusher reverb than stock.
The tubes have been replaced with all JJ and have less than 30 hours on them.
Amp is in perfect cosmetic condition.
The amp is a part of the Fender Professional Tube Series with All Tube Circuitry.
It sounds sweet! I'm stoked.

I've personally always enjoyed these amps, the only downside is that stock they break up waay too quick.
Other than that, this amp was a close second to the SRRI I wound up getting.

I have one of these but stock however.
As always, all mods for me are paycheck to paycheck.
First thing I'd do is go with the 3 spring type upgrade as quoted above.
Where would I find that?

There are a few of these on ebay right now for very reasonable prices.

You gotta admit, those blackface amps look great with white knobs! I almost did some horse trading for one of those sometime back. I did use a '93 Concert amp for a while that I put a K-120 in. That was cool.

+1. Mine started breaking up right at 4 on the dial. I had one for about 10 years. I used mine for Rockabilly type stuff, but sold it several years ago to get higher headroom amps. Great amp though.

This amp has been thoroughly tested & wrung out now. Due tot he mods, no breakup till 7+ on the volume. Reverb is a drippy as a tank.

Congrats on the amp - I wonder if there was more done to the reverb circuit than just swap the tank; from what I remember the stock reverb is really weak. Frankly, to me the poor stock reverb was a deal breaker on these for me back when they were new, so it's nice to see they can be made to come alive and shine with a little work.
So, given the time of year, will we get a picture of the amp under the christmas tree?
Happy holidays to all!

Hi Mel,
They replaced the springs with heavier ones. The reverb is so good, I just may put my tank away. I have all the schematics & notes if you are interested. Joe from The Eliminators gave it a real work out for 3 hours last night. He is a very experienced musician & said he really enjoyed it. It was amazing hearing a real player (not a butcher like me) play through it.

Well, that's a heartwarming sight. Lovely menorah, by the way.

Hi Kahuana,
That's a good looking amp!
I have the same one in the blonde version.
I got it used in '98 or so.
Yes, the stock reverb is weak... but the tremolo kills!
It's a nice size amp to tote around and plenty of power for a lot of gigs.
I'd like to improve the headroom and reverb and I'm interested in any details you can provide or schematics of the Moyer mods. Which ones they did, type of reverb pan, etc.
Happy Holidays to all following this thread....and the rest of you too.
Thanks, Ben

Some "blonde heroin" always was my first choice. Anyone wanting the technical info on the mods can email me at Tim@theeliminators.com.

Thanks for the info! By the way, these vibrolux weigh in at around 46lbs which is a bit heavier than i'm used too (Pro Jr @ 23lbs) BUT.. a lot lighter than the used Silverface Twin Reverb i was eyeing up.. around 70-80lbs!! I got a fight of stairs/double doors and potholed shingle drive on route to the car!

I just got this amp less than a month ago. Like people said, it was a bit noisy/hissy and the reverb was weak (compared to my Concert, 60W).
I put some different preamp tubes in it (mostly JJ AX7's, but also a GE 6201 and a JAN 5751 in the v3 slot). I left the stock 5881 Sovtek power tubes in it. It is almost silent now, less hiss than my Concert. It is also a lot quieter with the pulsing of the tremolo which was pretty "whooshy" before.
I didn't want to mess with the sound that much, so I only did the reverb cap replacement from the Mark Moyer mods. I replaced C16 which was a 500pF cap with a Sprague Orange Drop 3300pF (.0033uF). This has more reverb now on 2 than it did on 10 before and it is way wetter/"sproinkyer".
I am really happy with it and it stays clean until around 4 or a little higher on the bright channel #2. It breaks up a little sooner on #1 since it is +6dB on those channels. I haven't tried out humbuckers on it yet, but my Strat and Tele sound great through it.
I'm probably going to sell my '94 Concert now.

Oh, the only other mod I did was put in a Purple jewel light. It definitely helped give it some "old school" vintage tone!
