Anyone here ever hear of Daikkaiju? They are a dope band that is mainly Japanese influenced surf rock. They have an original sound and i personally dub them as my favorite surf rock band. Check em out!

Da-who-you? You bet we know who those masked masters of instrumental rock are..................I hope they are willing to return to Surf Fest 2009. There is already a "rumor" that The Madiera might be invading Clarkston as well. Now................If we can just lure Big Ray out of "hiding"..............................Stay tuned for more information...............ed

Totally dig their sound. I had a friend turn me on to them a couple of months ago. Kabuki and surf go well together. Another real cool band is Secret Samauri.

It's in Clarkston, GA, which is an Atlanta suburb on the East side.
Daikaiju puts on an incredible live show.

I'm in the "GET THE MADEIRA HERE ASAP!" group. In fact, when EddieK is sleeping, I take over! What a great addition to an already fantastic day that would be!!!
We should also keep working on that Slacktone situation. hmm... the mind boggles yet again.
I've said it before.... Daikaiju handed me my rear end last year at The Surf Fest. What an incredible performance.

Thanks Katz!
Yeah, I must concur with the adulation for Daikaiju. We met/played with those fellas late last year and had an absolute blast. Not only do they put on a mind-melting live show, but they are super nice guys.

I've seen them here on the West Coast 2 times,
they melted my brain, and no I wasn't on any mind altering substances.
I think the 2 together would be overload.
come back Daikaiju.

Daikaiju blew it up last year in Clarkston...literally. While playing, a fuse blew and the whole place went dark!
The power got cranked on again soon enough. What a great show!!!

Just wondering, does anyone know if there is anyone with a similar sound to Daikaiju?

I must say that I think Daikaiju has a pretty unique sound. If you like the heavier surf/instro sound, you might want to check out a CD called Heavy Surf that came out on Reptile Records (Daikaiju's label) a while back. You may find some bands on there you like.
Here is the Amazon link...though I am sure it is available through many other outlets as well...

There are many bands that I imagine people will throw your way. Here are a few you might want to check out...

CHUM

The Coffin Daggers

Estrume'n'tal

Certainly not an exhaustive list...

Yeah, and they do it well which is part of what makes Daikaiju so freaking cool... and their live show is unrivaled in the history of the world. But they've got little bits of overlap with other surf bands here and there...
For the psychedelia I'd suggest the Mermen. For the drama (and sometimes some of the grit), the Madeira. And for the ballsiness, the Nebulas and the Lava Rats. Ooh, and the Surf Coasters, who cover all the bases from time to time.

Roger what Jet Sterling wrote about bands in the Daikaiju corner of the surf map, and add:
Man or Astroman? in their late (Technetium - Spectrum) phase.
