Like most of the stuff on Ebay, my tank was all screwed up when I got it. The guy I bought it from assured me it was in perfect condition. When I got it home & plugged it in, it was not as good as the reverb in my amp. I took it into the shop. They found one of the springs was missing & the pan had been secured with a trash tie. Another spring was broken & duct taped to the pan.
Only $75 to return it to factory specs. The nimrod who sold it to me is local & will be hearing from me.

dont judge to quick though. he might well have thought it was in perfect condition, most people dont know or appreciate the amount of reverb a tank should have!
so, send him a note explaining the situation, saying you expect him to not have known the flaws but that as a matter of fact, he breqached contract by selling a fawlty unit, you're entitled to have it repaired and send along the bill and a payment proposal. Let your tech put the serial number on the bill too.
I don't even know whether that's legally sound in the US and through ebay, but that's not the point. still, be polite about it.
if he doesn't respond, open an e-bay conflict. and then give him hell
of course, I only think this is the most effective. on an ethical level, the mofo should burn in friggin' hell for not taking proper care a reverb tank

btw, what year was the tank? what kind of replacemnt tray did you get? do you like it.
vintage reverb trays are really valuable, so if there was a claim that the original was vintage, your loss is way larger then 75 bucks. and even if not, I think the trays from before last year or two are way better than new ones....

WR, It's a original 1964 tank. All they had to replace were 2 springs. Thanks for the advice. I'll be very tactful in my letter. Im going to go out on a limb & guess sice he had about 20 vintage looking guitars in his living room along with a Super reverb, proreverb, vibrolux, vibroking & the rest of the Fender catalog he knew what he was doing. On Ebay he goes by Amp Tramp.

...I have watched his sales over the years...that guy's got some pretty cool gear. A shame that he would be cavalier about it's packing. Of all Fender's lineup~~ "the tank" ~~ (you think) would devote the most packing.

that's cool. see, a cool guy sells cool gear and then when it's not so cool, he's cool about it. Awesome, glad it will be resolved, kudos to the guy.
now let's surf!
