Permalink Whom here likes to modify guitars?

Well.. I think it is fairly normal for most of us to want to modify our guitars. So how many of you actively do this? What mods have you done? Post some pictures if you have them. I am talking about real modifications, such as re-finish, custom pickguards, unique pickup swaps, newly added switches or knobs, etc. etc. Let's see people!

Just did one mod: Swapped out the stock bridge p/u on a G&L ASAT Classic tele for a Don Mare 0038 p/u, put in Glendale bridge and saddles at the same time. (Success)

One still in the gear gathering stage: I have a Peerless Wizard in pieces downstairs. It's a thinline version of the ES-5 type Gibson, 3x P-90s. Gonna have the pickups rewound first. Then either a tunomatic or Gretsch bar type bridge added, add a soundpost, maybe add a Bigsby.

You already saw my jag-pickup equipped strat.
Use you're imagination and be unique.
Break the established rules.

I'll be putting Mosrite pickups in a Gretsch Pro Jet this week.

The only modification I've done was purely cosmetic, trying to make my '69 Tele Thinline reissue look more like a stock Tele. It started out like this -

and after refinishing, modifying a stock pick guard, and making a custom switchplate, it looks like this -

It was a fun project, doesn't look too bad if you stand back far enough!

Remora, it came out great. The only mods for my guitar will be a maple neck reverse headstock, and pups, but not for a while.

I also like to think that all early 60's fender equipment is happy to be playing surf music again. After all, its the music it was meant to play.

Modify, build, paint, wire etc. etc. I quit the painting this year however to much of a hassle in the space I have. Here's a few I've done over the last few years.

You wouldn't per chance be a fan of George Lynch, Jake E. Lee and Steve Vai, hmmmm? Laughing

Nothing too complicated - added a 4-way switch (for parallel/series) and out of phase switch, plus Bigbsy to my tele.

How did you know? Laughing

Nearly every guitar I own has been modded to some degree or another. The big ones recently include 3 Teles routed for Callaham Strat bridges. I kept the vintage style ashtray Tele bridge plates by chopping off the back end and screwing them directly to the bodies. So, I'm still mounting the bridge PU from the ashtray plate (which contributes to the overall Tele sound as well as giving you a place to hook your pinky), but from the front, you kind of have to look close to tell that something has been done to it. Before you ask, yes...they do still sound like Teles.

The other big mod I've done recently is in another thread here about Jaguar control plates which are set up for a regular 3-way toggle switch instead of the sliders.

I made a few adjustments to my latest acoustic. Sharpies, stickers, and drawstrings really come in handy sometimes.

Nice paint job. I was thinking of changing out the neck (headstock is gold) on my Dipinto and changing the Gold pick guard as well. I like the look of the white pick guard on the silver sparkle.

I just did a Telecaster to Esquire conversion on my MIM 50's model. Quick, simple and easily reversible.

i likes to.

i have a jaguar/mustang frankenstien i'm almost finnished.

a gold sparkle strat built from a melange of fender and warmoth parts

and my brand new beater squier strat (vintage modified series which are pretty decent for a squier) that has brand new guts and some new hardware
