I love Bettie Page, let's hope for the best. I think the Bunny Yeager sessions were Bettie's best. They really brought out the natural ,healthy exuberance that I consider to be the real Bettie Page.

This sucks. IMHO, Bettie has never been surpassed, she's the original and still the best.

Everybody that came after just built on what she did, her influence on a lot of different "scenes", (rat rod culture, pinup culture, rockabilly imagery, lowbrow art, punk rock....the list goes on and on) that thrive today is incalculable.
It's cool she was "found" by her devoted followers like Dave Stevens & Greg Theakston in the early 90's and was personally involved and benefitted financially in her huge resurgance in popularity.

Love ya Bettie, you're in my prayers.

I can count the Bettie Pages at any given rockabilly show. That's not a complaint, btw. She is an icon, and will live forever.

Because of trends.

Oh... rhetorical question. My bad.

Too bad she died. She lived a long life though, I'm sure she is in a better place.

Yeah, a lot of girls look like that.

I feel terrible for saying this because she just passed away, but I just really don't like her haircut, the bangs specifically. It just doesn't attract me. That and her hair never looked combed, straight, or wavy(in the right way). Might as well have given her hair it's own name.

But kudos for doing something that was rather looked down upon during her era.

The thing about Bettie was she had this powerful aura that shown through in her photographs. She wasn't a dead-eyed model looking for a paycheck. Sure she had drop-dead stunning looks, but also an inner beauty, passion, strength and fire that you could see in her smile and eyes. Even in the fetish photographs it was there (and maybe that is why those photos are so powerful). She totally embraced whatever pose or scenario she was shot in.

I was reading some obits today and did not realize she had struggles with schizophrenia.

She just seems to be one of those super rare individuals that was way ahead of her time and surroundings. It is no wonder she became an icon, it is too bad she didn't see any benefits of her underground fame until late in her life.

I agree. You could crop everything below her shoulders in this pic and it would still be amazing...

Are you kidding? Go to any rockabilly show and you'll see at least a dozen wanna-Betties.

I dunno, they can cut their bangs, put on the makeup, and wear the clothes but none of 'em look like Bettie Page to me.

Man, you guys are rough. A woman dies, you criticize her haircut. She is not responsible for her imitators. Is Muddy Waters responsible for the all crappy blues band playing his licks poorly? The first thing that happens when you innovate is you get cheap imitations. That one woman would influence so many others is amazing. She tapped into something huge, that there was an alternative to movie star beauties. She looked like a real woman, and I think her imitators see themselves in her, maybe not perfect, but perfect in their own way.

As usual I disagree with 98% of the dribble that spew's from your mouth.Of course you wouldn't like her haircut, the bangs specifically,as you put it.Her hair was perfect in my opinion, and that mean's in every style she had it in.I was wondering Jake if it's just your nature to try to shoot down everything that comes up on this site. It's a shame your such a jaded jerk, because I actually like your band a lot.

I myself will miss the fact that Bettie was actually alive and breathing on this earth. She was hands down the most beautiful woman that I have EVER laid my eyes on .It's a shame the moralist of the day, scared Bettie into hiding from the shame they forced down her throat.

Bettie was the bomb...saw the movie awhile back and thought it was pretty well done..the actress did a good job imo. That said, we all have our take on things..that's why it's called a forum...one of my first posts here were some re: DD's place in the design of Fender products...was met by some with shall we say less than kind words. We should all remember to post with respect for other members and as such we also should not let our skins be too thin and take things too personal ..let's keep it fun Cool Cool Cool
