I always thought "Satans Pilgrims" and "Bambi Molesters" were unusual names for a surf band. I am a major fan of both however.
I don't mind the name Satan's Pilgrims. But little old ladies who scowl at my SP shirt seem to mind it. But I don't find it offensive, let alone "bad" aesthetically.
But Bambi Molesters is definitely a bad name in both senses. I think they get a pass on these boards because of how awesome their music is, but imo, it really is a low class name for a pretty high class (sound wise) band.
I actually saw Butt Trumpet live back in 95. I don't remember much about their set, but I do remember thinking that they were better than their name. But that isn't saying much...

Butt Trumpet
Fudge Tunnel
Anal Cunt
....There were LOTS of bad names in the punk/crust/grind world back in the 80's and 90's.

I remember watching the film "24 Hour Party People" and Tony Wilson said the worst band name he heard was, "Barabbas".
When they asked the crowd, "who do you want?" the reply was "Barabbas!".
Pretty awful biblical joke.

Yeastie Girls (late 80's Bay Area/Gilman Street, Accapella, all-girl rap group)
Jesus Chrystler
Wavves
Rotting Christ
Crucifucks
Butthole Surfers
Nashville Pussy
Alabama Thunderpussy
Goatwhore
Sloppy Seconds
So many terrible ones out there that somehow managed to make a name for themselves.

At least these names caught your attention, in more than a few genres that the idea. The names I hate are bland, non creative and just plain dumb. Take a chance, say what the hell and dare to be different. It ain't gonna kill ya'.

I mean, what the heck's a "Coldplay"?
It's English for "boring as hell."
-Warren
It's american for "Radiohead plays music better, but we're better looking."

"The Interpits." I was briefly in a band of this name as a teenager. The guy who organized the band picked the name and spelled it out. Sure people choose bad names for shock value, but he thought it meant something. This remains plain and simple the cruddiest band name I've heard of.
