Can anyone suggest any good Surf or Rock Christmas songs for me to learn? Try and keep the Rock to '50s era. I'm already learning Chuck Berry's "Run,Run Rudolph," which I heard in the movie the Santa Claus with Tim Allen.

I also like to think that all early 60's fender equipment is happy to be playing surf music again. After all, its the music it was meant to play.

The Raveonettes- Wishing You a Rave Christmas. Great Christmas EP. Just got it yesterday. He is an amazing guitarist, I can't play the parts, but they aren't that difficult.

I'll check these out. Dennis, scared me, I was just watching the Dennis the Menace Christmas special, and now I came into a Christmas music thread with someone named Dennis the Menace. Any one with a song, keep going.

I once saw 'em on the Late Show with David Letterman, I think back in 2003, playing a surf instrumental arrangement of "Here Comes Santa Claus." They had (I think) 3 go-go dancers in mini-skirted "Santa" suits for visual enhancement. The overall presentation was quite impressive, never mind that was absolutely the first time I'd ever heard of Los Straitjackets.
Personally, I've noodled with arranging "We Three Kings" and "Little Drummer Boy" as guitar instrumentals. I'll do a lot better with the latter tune, once I've got some drums to work with.

Matt, for "Little Drummer Boy" a la surf check out Pollo Del Mar's "The Saracen Gift" on their "Devil and the Deep Blue Sea" album. Just don't let it influence your own arrangement too much.

The King of Hawaii's new Christmas CD is a killer.
The Pyronuats have a great Christmas CD if you can still find it.
Davie Allan and the Arrows Fuzz for the Hoilidays Volumes 1 & 2 are
awesome CD's.
Paul Johnson's "Christmas Guitar" is mellow and very tasty.
And all the other ones mentioned are great, particularly the
Urban Surf Kings', the Blue Hawaiians', and the Double Crown X'mas
compilations.

Christmas music is one of my guilty pleasures. Not necessarily surf, but my recent favorites are:
Reverend Horton Heat: We Three Kings
Elvis: Either/both of the classic albums
Paul Johnson: Christmas Guitars
Chris Isaak: Christmas
In steady December rotation I also have Los Straitjackets, Beach Boys, Ventures, and assorted punk/jazz/blues compilations.
I should break these out in July, too, to double my enjoyment!

We just added our first Christmas song to our MySpace. It's called "Santa Claus Is Coming To Surf".....it's mildly entertaining...we hope!

You guys notice Elvis seems to become more popular around Christmas? They have a line of Elvis cards that either sing or say things like "Thank you, thank you very much."

Yeah - Los Straitjackets Xmas CD is quite enjoyable. I like it better than most of their actual albums.

Last year my band played a 3rd set consisting the Ventures Christmas record in its entirety. What a blast! I love how the beginnig of every song throws everyone off that's never heard it. Man, when I was a kid I'd make my dad play "Scrooge" off that record over and over.

The Beach Boys' "Christmas Album" and the Ventures instrumental Christmas album are always in my CD rotation this time of year. If you're interested in something "not surf" and a little off beat, try Leon Redbone's "Christmas Island" album, or one of John Fahey's CD's _

Elvis has a Christmas Duets album out. The 23-song 2006 Elvis Christmas comp is very good, too.
