Permalink Backing track to Telstar

Anyone have a backing track to this song or know where I can get one. Thanks...

Good ol' Joe used a completely different song as a backing track when he wrote Telstar. Nothing I would recommend but check out the very interesting demo.

This site doesn't have "Telstar" but it does have some OK Shadows backing tracks.

thanks fellas, I have that stuff... I am trying to make a compilation of most of the classic backing tracks. I have been able to find a lot of obscure stuff, but not this tune. Thanks for trying.

You could, of course, record your own.

Los Fantasticos

That Shadows backing track site is a blast to play along with! I'm not too savy on the computer. Can anyone tell me how to put those on a cd or into itunes?

Right-click (or Control-click, if using an older one-button Macintosh mouse) and select "Save Linked file as..." (or equivalent option for your operating system and browser) to download the mp3 file to some convenient directory on your hard drive.
Then, if you're using iTunes, go to its File menu and select "Add to Library..." then locate the file you just downloaded. By default, iTunes makes a copy of it.

Once you have it in your iTunes music library, you can re-name it, fill out the "Artist" name, and so on. Select a bunch of tunes and (from some menu, I forget which) have it "Create new playlist from selection". You can also add or remove tunes from existing Playlists one at a time, by right-clicking on the tune title. You can change the Sort order in a playlist too. Deleting from a Playlist doesn't erase the file, but deleting it from the "Music Library" list does.

Once you have a Playlist, you can burn it to a CD. There's a menu item and a button for it somewhere. Be sure to select "Audio CD", and not a CD with MP3s (unless you plan to play it only on a more recent player that can handle CDs with MP3 files). iTunes will then convert the tunes to the proper format as it burns the CD without affecting your iTunes Music Library copy.

You should be able to get up to 70 minutes on an Audio CD, and you can see the total playlist time by looking at the bottom of the Playlist's window. Click on that playlist duration time to toggle it between decimal hours and hours/minutes/seconds.

iTunes even has a number of options in the Print dialog for labels (with titles and Artist's names) that you can print out and cut up for the CD jewel case.

I'm not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing.

Are you still looking for Telstar? I may be able to help.

Good ol' Joe sure was tone-deaf! I assume that's him singing.
I recently got "I Hear a New World" -- pure genius, yet almost unlistenable. Lightyears ahead for sure.

Guys and Gals,
Upload your backing tracks to the BT section so we can all use them for practice.

I'm afraid that won't be possible. Although I played bass in a Surf/R&B band in Australia during the 60's, I'm not tone perfect and rely on other people's tab rather than writing my own. I either extract it from a Midi or find a source on the Internet. Here are two sites where you can get Telstar:

Tornadoes: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/t/tornadoes/telstar_tab.htm

Ventures: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/ventures_tabs.htm (Edit: Sorry, this is bass only)

If you want to look at any PowerTab on this site, you can download Powertab from here:

http://www.power-tab.net/

There are a couple of places you can get accurate (Shadows) tab and backing tacks, but these are commercial. The cost varies.

I'll make a list of all the sites I know of for surf music tabs and or backings and post them here in a week or so.
