Permalink EL MUCHACHO - 3 videos I shot at OTTO's 11/19/08

New Topic

New York-area band EL MUCHACHO have started building a real following, playing their music live, which can best be described as a hybrid of garage, punk, surf, frat-rock, psychedelic, fuzz, and what I like to call 'minimalist psycho-drone'

or as they say on their MySpace page, EL MUCHACHO is "TheOnly Surf/Punk Electric Kazoo Band That Matters"

they have played at my SURF-ROCK SHINDIGs and UNSTEADY/WOOD BEACH BALLs, and people just get up and start groovin' and dancin' to them...their are a good-time party band, with a great tongue-in-cheek sense of humor

here is their MySpace site:

last night I shot 3 live videos at good ol' OTTO's SHRUNKEN HEAD in NYC; all 3 songs now posted on my YouTube page are covers of other popular songs....most likely the originals are familiar to everyone on this forum

so here are the links to each song I have posted (and for all the naysayers -- I have included on my YouTube page, along with the videos, information about which artist recorded the original versions, OK?)

INCENSE AND PEPPERMINTS (original: STRAWBERRY ALARM CLOCK)

CALIFORNIA SUN (original: THE RIVIERAS)

Unsteady Freddie,
I must say your videos are probably better than 98% of the videos found on YouTube.I really like the sound quality and your unique way of getting video angles. You keep it exciting by actually moving around from band member to band member.Nobody likes it when someone just stay's focused on the guitar player.{sorry guys}I haven't said it before, but thank you for putting me there in the action ever though I wasn't.You rock Dude! Rock

your comment(s) mean a great deal to me

I do try and get 'involved'

and I try and 'work' the music, 'feel' my way around the band(s), if you know what I mean (I suspect you do)

I want the viewer to be experiencing what I am experiencing, if that's possible?

the hardest parts are not pissing off people trying to watch a band - not interfering with THEIR experience, staying out of the way; and also making sure the bands are cool with my 'technique', which often brings me quite close to instruments, the guitarists' hands, etc

yeah I am having fun; found a cool way to express myself and share my joy and passion for instro-beat surf, and other genres

keep checking back to my YouTube 'page', b/c on Saturday I head out to St Paul and Green Bay, and will see DAVIE ALLAN and the ARROWS (SAM BOLLE and PETE CURRY) live, as well as THE TRASHMEN and THE NEANDERTHALS

I hope to come home with some gems

again, thx for taking the time to post your thoughts for all to see; feel free to also comment on the individual YouTube pages

More Davie Allan and the Arrows,Neanderthals, and the Trashmen! I can't freakin' wait.I've found myself burning alot of YouTube video clips to DVD lately,so this will only add to my collection.
You'd think with the better technology we have today, people would feel stupid for posting some of the crappy quality video clips that they do on YouTube, but hell no they don't.Since when did bass distorted, shaky hand, blured picture, way in the back of the on the venue, video footage qualify as good enough to post on sites likeYouTube?
It's good to know that there are people like you out there taking the time to put quality footage up for all of us surf/garage freaks.

Thanks again Unsteady Freddie Smile
