Funny thing is, what you can't see in the first pic (The Amino Acids) is the white stocking over the mask....kinda makes his head look as though there's a newly unrolled condom over it (love the band, though)...

The Amino Acids are pretty heavy. Nice guys--they sent me a bunch of CDs once. I played one of them on Clint's show.

It's funny, after reading some of the posts the other day, I got to thinking about the Amino Acids -- I really dig their stuff too. I'd say in general I'm much more impressed with bands that get a unique look like theirs or like Daikaiju's, rather than the lucha libre masks.

Man, am I the only person who thinks that the Mosrite in that Lost Acapulco video sounds like one string is WAY outta tune????

I think Ferenc made a joke. Very funny and very true. I must say surf music is not a genre for the 'lookers'. I've never seen George Clooney at a surf show but I have seen Quentin Tarantino at one.

I'm glad somebody said something - "way WAY out of tune" - I was thinking the same thing, but since I'm the "Newbie" here, I figured I should hold back......

I'm not a personal fan of the mask look, but I at least understand why Mexican bands consistently go for the look, 'cause I know Lucha is pretty big down there in a very different way than pro wrestling in the US. But I guess any kind of intense looking mask--lucha or no-- sorta gives the impression of "Oh crap, these guys mean business." Mexican wrestling masks just happen to be pretty predominant. I guess some people like the Daikaiju or Amino Acids looks because they're more novel, but if there were just as many bands doing those looks as well everyone would find them just as redundant or uncool.

I just started a band called bonzai rodeo masacre its more surf than"surfabilly" we just have an upright bassist, I have been in a couple local rockabilly bands around here and I got a lot of freinds around here when I started this band I decided I did not want to be in a band with good freinds it ussually screws up freindships with me, so i found 3 guys that did not know each other from adam, and its working so far. were not as afraid to be critical or say what we feel.Anyway IM getting off track, I did not tell my freinds about my new band because they will all show up just cause their my freinds, I know I hate going to shows where my freind is in the band, well only when they suck. Then I dont have the heart to tell em what I think. so we decided to wear masks except the drummer, he wears the samurai paint and coustume and we dress in western clothes cowboy hat and bandanas over our face. but I think its fun! now the luchador masks are overdone, but if its original I dont mind masks as long as the band is animate. for us it serves the poupose of bringing in a crowd of people that would not come if my drunken violent freinds where there, ah I still love em though, I might tell em after a couple more months of exposure.
