I actually just ran across these guys as well.... they are FANTASTIC. I'm really impressed. That MySpace really is a great tool to find new bands. You can band hop from page to page to page all afternoon and find some serious gems. —

I must honestly say I find out about 90% of the bands I listen these day over the web. It is just a huge database of related artists and sound samples and videos. It has allowed me to avoid radio at all times. Although there is a certain lazy aspect about not having to try hard to discover new bands. The negative is outweighed, I believe, by the gift of music. You can find out about many more bands that you wouldn't have known about before the net was a viable option for discovering music. I credit blogs first and foremost to the discovery of new music, not myspace. |

Tim, what really surprised me was, When the Los Venturas from Belgium were here at my house, they told me that Sebastian the Guitar player of the Tritones used to be in the Los Venturas. do you know if they have a real cd for sale, or just downloads from I tunes? thanks again, —Jeff(bigtikidude) |

the beauty of having so many many 'friends' in MySpace, and having 2 internet radio shows, means I get a mix of music from so many places bands I find by accident, bands that are 'friends' with other bands I dig, or websites like PHIL DIRT'S REVERB CENTRAL, http://www.surfmusic.com/, http://www.nesmasurf.org/, http://www.surferjoemusic.com/, http://www.infinitetadpole.com/bands1.html, http://music.aol.com/artists/surf, http://www.oberlin.edu/staff/thinders/Surf.html, http://www.surfguitar101.com/, etc etc etc also many artists approach me b/c of the radio shows, reaching out with the hope of getting their stuff heard, and further exposed the genre, for those that dig it, has so many sources to learn more.... Great thread, Jeff!! I'm really blown away by the Space Rangers - top-notch Euro-surf! I've gotta get this CD. I also really enjoyed the Tritons, though they're definitely HEAVILY influenced by the Mermen - I don't think I've ever heard another band sound so much like them. Talk about cavernous reverb! The new Sandy Nelson stuff is fun, too, though maybe a bit repetative. But still worth checking it out, I think, and Eddie sounds really good. I had no idea Sandy Nelson was still active. Very cool.
