I actually just ran across these guys as well.... they are FANTASTIC. I'm really impressed.

That MySpace really is a great tool to find new bands. You can band hop from page to page to page all afternoon and find some serious gems.

I must honestly say I find out about 90% of the bands I listen these day over the web. It is just a huge database of related artists and sound samples and videos.

It has allowed me to avoid radio at all times. Although there is a certain lazy aspect about not having to try hard to discover new bands. The negative is outweighed, I believe, by the gift of music. You can find out about many more bands that you wouldn't have known about before the net was a viable option for discovering music.

I credit blogs first and foremost to the discovery of new music, not myspace.

i'm a big fan of the tri-tone form belgium

Facebook pages theSupertones

I don't think I can recall any discussion on this forum about Simon Jones, or the Space Agency, but I first heard him/them on myspace...

Surfers Guitar is a great song.

Twisted Evil > Angel

Tim,
thanks for the link to them, I remember seeing vids of a few Mermen covers they did a few years back.
I really like these guys alot.

what really surprised me was, When the Los Venturas from Belgium were here at my house, they told me that Sebastian the Guitar player of the Tritones used to be in the Los Venturas.

do you know if they have a real cd for sale, or just downloads from I tunes?

thanks again,

Jeff(bigtikidude)

the beauty of having so many many 'friends' in MySpace, and having 2 internet radio shows, means I get a mix of music from so many places

bands I find by accident, bands that are 'friends' with other bands I dig, or websites like PHIL DIRT'S REVERB CENTRAL, http://www.surfmusic.com/, http://www.nesmasurf.org/, http://www.surferjoemusic.com/, http://www.infinitetadpole.com/bands1.html, http://music.aol.com/artists/surf, http://www.oberlin.edu/staff/thinders/Surf.html, http://www.surfguitar101.com/, etc etc etc

also many artists approach me b/c of the radio shows, reaching out with the hope of getting their stuff heard, and further exposed

the genre, for those that dig it, has so many sources to learn more....

I don't think he's in a band, but he had a media player that plays some great
songs.
Most I have but, there is some great new stuff that I haven't heard of.

I don't know how long it plays for.
and how often he changes the songs.
but its really worth checking out.
and it has a pop up song title, band label.
and a pop down set list.

I would assume hes a lurker here but not sure.
if so please chime in and say hi sir.

I came upon this MySpace yesterday:
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=391773360
The first beat from the first song made me smile!!
It's Sandy Nelson and The Sin City Termites which include Eddie Angel from LSJ on guitar and Billy Favata and Remi Gits from Torturing Elvis on guitar and bass. Sandy Nelson had a huge influence on me as a kid drummer and it's great to see him still doing it. There are some great blogs on their page too which tell the story.
CHECK IT OUT IF YOU LIKE SANDY NELSON

Mostly the stuff everyone here has told me, showed me, or talked about.

I also like to think that all early 60's fender equipment is happy to be playing surf music again. After all, its the music it was meant to play.

Great thread, Jeff!! I'm really blown away by the Space Rangers - top-notch Euro-surf! I've gotta get this CD. I also really enjoyed the Tritons, though they're definitely HEAVILY influenced by the Mermen - I don't think I've ever heard another band sound so much like them. Talk about cavernous reverb! The new Sandy Nelson stuff is fun, too, though maybe a bit repetative. But still worth checking it out, I think, and Eddie sounds really good. I had no idea Sandy Nelson was still active. Very cool.

I'd recommend Joao Erbetta: http://www.myspace.com/joaoerbetta
Joao has been on SG101 on occasion but I'm afraid his thread may have gotten buried. He's primarily a Brazilian jazz guitarist with chops out the wazoo, living in DC (but shortly moving to NY). His new CD, "The LA Sessions" was recorded by Pete Curry (who also played drums on it), and is one of editor's picks by Art Thompson in the new Holiday 2008 issue of Guitar Player magazine. There are only a couple of 'true' surf songs on the CD, the rest being a mix of rockabilly, latin, country, jazz and all sorts of other rootsy influences. A very diverse CD, and Joao plays like a madman! And the songs are very cool, too. The lead song, Viva Waimea!, is a surf monster!

I'd also recommend the Sidemen from Germany: http://www.myspace.com/sidemen
Excellent rockabilly-tinged surf.

I was thinking 3,4,6 but wrote the 5. Embarassed

I came across this band Killer Filler on the internets a while ago and ended up swapping CDs with them. It's Chris Bess's (former keyboardist from S.C.O.T.S.) band.
They kinda look like they might be surfabilly or something like that, but their CD is actually very cool spy/loungy. Excellent keyboarding and guitar pickin' as well as great songwriting too:

Killers from Space

Thanks everybody for these suggestions - I have 3 new myspace friends, not to mention heard some great new music!

The Tritones come out on top out of all the bands mentioned so far, followed very closely by the Space Rangers
