With all the nonsensical quarreling and entanglements which Von Kreep had to endure with a certain So Cal band for releasing that LP, he’ll be happy to know that there are still fans out there like yourself!

This was a pretty good comp. Great songs Lord Hunt! I have heared a little about this bad blood feud you mention. A good friend of mine told me of a very intoxicated Dave Klein confronting Von Kreep about something that had to do with the Ghastly's drummer, but no one knew what he was getting at.I think he more or less just really embarrased himself. Do you still hang out with Dave? What is the deal with the comp and the feud?

yeah what band had a problem with the guy/lable that put out the comp?
and why? what was that all about?

I'm lost.

Bigtikidude, I apologize for not responding sooner. I was saddened to hear what was posted here. Doublecoil apparently has some inside information that I’m not privy to. I was aware of some conflict between the Ghastly Ones and O’Neil, the producer of that comp, and was shocked to hear what it devolved into. Anyway, it’s nothing I want to explore further as it’s really none of my business. I just hope for god’s sake these people get some help. Any further questions on the topic may want to be directed to the source, Dave Klein. I appreciate the positive feedback on the comp and hope we have the opportunity to do more like it with O’Neil in the future. He’s a great guy. Peace.

Wow, Lord Hunt's back from Davy Jones' Locker, eh? Good deal! And to think, only last night I was playing "Head Shrinkin' Fun" in my car with my wife and two girls while on our way to a Halloween party at my sister-in-law's house! I told them we needed some good, "spooky" surf music to get in the mood, and put that in the cd player.

(My daughters, incidentally, are nine and six years old, respectively, and they're already surf fans--and Bomboras fans to boot!) Twisted Evil

p.s. And while we're at it, whatever happened to The Cramps???

Is this something you can share with the rest of us, Amazing Larry?!?

Confused Hey yeah, what did happen to them? I guess they are just sitting back for a while. I had a chance to see them about 2 years ago in SF for a Halloween show, I wasn't able to go tho Mad
Cool Hey Greg, just wanted to say that I really love "A Fistful of Terror". Its my favorite tune on that Halloween Hootanany comp. And my favorite Bomboras tune.

Head Shrinking Fun was like their 4th or 5th record? That's a lot for a surf band.

The Ghastly One's have always been pretty clear about their influences , both musical and otherwise. Such as Grim Grinning Ghosts...

In the interviews I've read they never claimed that they created the genre. They've got a hearse now, so I bet they're pretty committed to staying spooky. ;)

It definately wasn't a rerquirement to be a spooky band in the 60's to have a hearse. They were the perfect band hauler and quite popular among all types of combos. Considering they're typically low mileage, rollers to slide the gear in and out with, and curtains to hide it. The shock factors just a bonus! Gotta love'em! Very Happy

Cool Yeah, I think this Double Coil guy needs to chill out. Danny was just surprised that someone in a Surf/Instro group even had a manager. Confused Hey this thread did run off into "What happened to the Bomboras?" Laughing that's OK, it also shortly went into Surfin' Bird Razz

Seems a pitty to marginalize someone with such a long history in surf, but give a pass to bandwagon jumpers.

No, but it seems a pity to marginalize anyone who didn't come out of the womb with a Surfer's Choice LP. Sorry if any of us who got into surf after '94 have offended your sensibilities.

ROTFL Ouch, someone just got Served!!! Laughing

If it makes anyone feel better, I know a certain personal manager that took a pedal to the head from across the room! Laughing

it's funny that i was in both bands that were on zombie au gogo... however, my memory doesn't serve me as to if any recordings i was on were ever released? i think maybe a Ghastly Ones track on a comp has me playing organ or guitar... but i don't think there was any bomboras stuff... although i did record a bomboras track for a comp, i don't remember, maybe gregg does.

quick weigh in on a few of the topics brought up.

i think it's been greed that tore up most good bands we all have loved thruout the years. some people are willing to do anything to have their name known. it's an exceptionally sad thing for me because i lost so many people i deeply cared about to it. and what in the hell is a personal manager? i manage my person just fine.

all in all it was the best learning experience of my life and i will never forget my friends, my brothers, that i was able to play rock and roll with.

big ups to lord hunt, showman shane and if anyone sees david tell him he's loved.

somehow I have a feeling that "personal manager" means psycho girlfriend,
but of course I could be wrong.
I don't know any of these people personally,

Hi'ya Paul. Not too sure I can help out with that, however I do remember your authorship of the Ghastly One's song "Graveyard Shift", up there as one of my favorite surf songs. I'm not sure if they still play it, but that song had all the elements a good surf song should have. Be sure to register it with BMI if you haven't already. Cheers.

Darnitall Gregg... I looked that song up, it came out on a comp titled, Mr. Snail's Haloween Party. So, I listened to it online, and you sir are 100% correct... I did write that song. I don't think the recording they used on that comp is me, although it is possible. Sadly, I don't believe I ever registered anything, whether it be Invisible Men songs or Ghastly One's songs. In fact, I know a song I wrote for the Bomboras was loosley used as song for that other offshoot band. Shrug.

Hi Paul, nice to see you on this site. I think I may have seen you play a comic book convention about a thousand years ago with the Ghastlys. Does this sound familliar? I have to say that one of my favorite albums of all time is COME GET SOME by The Invisible Men. I have it on vinyl and it totally kicks ass. Dave Klein is an amazing drummer and your guitar work is phenominal. Its so cool that you Bomboras guys could come out of a surf band and then release a record like this, kinda Mummies meets Mudhoney. Very cool. In fact, I'm playing it right now! The name of that record would'nt be inspired by Bruce Campbell would it?

doublecoil, thanks for the kind words man. i'm pretty sure i remember that comicbook convention as Chuck Barris was there in his customized Barris Member-Only-Jacket. and i couldn't agree more about dave. listen to "love byrd" and count all the rolls... we used to make fun of him about it, but truthfully he's one of the best surf/rock drummers out there. it still cracks me up that he plays organ for the Ghastlys when he is such a superior drummer. (No offense to Norman.)

thanks for the compliment too, i'll bounce it right over to Gregg whom deserves the credit for molding me into a somewhat-decent player. the amount of time and effort he put into working with me was far above the call of duty.

This Is My Boom Stick! Shane and I certainly LOVED that movie. (Trivia: did you know Garret Immel of the GO worked on that movie?) So it was partially a love of that Bruce Campbell attitude and also a reminder to those who gave us grief of how we felt about them. hahah, that album is a bundle of hate pointed at just a few faces.

Cool I Think it was both Garret and Norm who worked on Army of Darkness. It's a kick ass movie. One of my favorites, but apparently Bruce Campbell is a Prick. I've seen some videos of him on YouTube, and I believe it . Here's a question for whoever can answer it, was that song "David's Moods" influenced by a Santana song called Soul Sacrifice? It sounds like it was, just wondering.

The Deadbeats

Actually, it was just Garrett who worked on that one, (as my memory and IMDB serve me) he did the makeup for the scene where Bruce gets cloned, but Garret is very professional about that stuff and I never heard him say a bad word about anyone he worked with. He also got to stuff Marky-Mark's junk in a prosthetic penis for Boogie Nights, but that story is best told by Garret himself.

i wish i knew the answer to your question, sadly enough dave and i haven't spoken in many years... maybe gregg knows?

Hmmm your right, it was only Garret who worked on "Army of Darkness". I was looking threw Norman's IMDB, and apparently he worked on "Coming to America" Laughing I love that movie. Smile but about Bruce Campbell being a Douche, that was said by a member of this forum. Apparently he met the guy a while back, and he said that Bruce was a real Jerk to him for no apparent reason. Shocked Booggie Nights LMAO

Greetings FenderShowman63, David's Mood was some obscure cover song that Jake had on tape and brought into practice one day. I can't remember the artist but it's not the Dave Lewis / Kingsmen song. Paul's being modest - he surpassed me on guitar in 1999. And ditto what doublecoil said: Come Get Some is one badass album.

Hmmm Muy Interesante, the first time I heard that tune I immediately thought of that song "Soul Sacrifice", It kinda has the same ingredients with all those drums breaks. Smile But thanks for answering, I've been curious about that song for some time now.

The Deadbeats

Bringing the subject of Rob Zombie back, I heared that in addition to The Bomboras and the GOs that The Invisible Men were going to put out records on Zombie A Go Go. Any truth to that?

I totally agree the Legendary Invisible Men are freakin' amazing. The band and their songs are totally underrated in the surf/garage world.Does anybody know if the band has any plans on recording more albums.
