Anyone ever used this pedal? Opinions?

Linky

Don

recently, in a store, briefly.

I checked it out because I liked the idea I could dial in compression to get more sustain with theoverdive sound as opposed to the chuncky clean jag sound.

but ... what I was most eagerly looking for was an overdrive that sounded good with very very slight minimal overdrive, just a little break up edge. the visual sound just let me down there. instead I opted for this, and apart form that it looks stunning, it's the very first overdrivepedal I've ever owned (of many) that sounds great at low drive settings. It's actually made right on the opposite site of the globe form where I live, netherlands, which is cool too. I am truely completly happy with this pedal, got it next to new off ebay for a E140,- including shipping.

for wilder overdrive (just to F around at home, not with the surf!) I use this 20 bucks plastic joke, bought it because it got a good review in a dutch guitar mag, and hey, what's $20 - honestly, I 've owend everything yellow boss has ever made, and this one really sounds better, way more dynamic and just more musical. a very pleasant surprise.

... but, that visual sound thing sounded pretty good in the store, for 'real overdrive', I must say. you wont regret getting one - if you can get one second hand, from what I saw the few weeks I followed 'em on ebay, they hold value pretty well.

btw, you've seen they have soundsamples on the site, right?

Yeah, you pretty much nailed what I'm looking for, too. Was the VisualSound too much even at minimum drive settings?

To be honest, I don't see myself using the compressor WITH the OD, but intead of the OD in some cases...thinking reggae-type chording and possibly even to smooth things out a bit for surf rythym. I've never used a compressor before, though, so I might be barking up the wrong tree.

I love the way it looks...will have to check that out.

The only sound samples I've seen on their site are complete songs where one of their pedals is used. It's not always clear which pedal is being used in a particular song, let alone what the settings are. Am I missing some better sound samples somewhere?

Thanks for the info/help.

it got "scratchy" at low settings. instead of a slightly overdiven tone, it sounds like a clean tone with some buzzing happening at the same time. the bosses do the same, as the danelectro overdrives, and everything else I heard.

but really, you should check this out WITH YOU OWN GUITAR if you have a chance, cause pedals react differently on different guitars - the reason I checked it out was I liked these soundsamples, esp. the 1st and 3th
http://www.visualsound.net/jhiland.htm - these have the route 66 only. But it worked less well with my jag.

depending on what amp you have, a volume boost might also work for you, set the amp at near-breakup, then if you hit volume boost, you just overdrive the amp a tad.

it is great - I got it because it was especially built for very low drive settings - it seems the newer version has an internal switch for even less drive, to accomodate humbucker players.
soundsample and info at http://www.g2d.co.nz/.
possible downsides are that it's a bit mid-heavy tonewise (works well for me though, again, might depend on your rig) and it is very high (physically), about 2.2 inch, so on a pedal board it's higher then other pedals.

good luck with the hunt!
