sorry don't know who the band is.

whats odd is that they use electric surf in the promo for this.

you'd think that they would get the duo-tones to endorse them.
and use their acoustic music.
go figure, geniuses at Fender, working hard again.

i have the small bodys 66 malibu and newporter both are very cool guitars and i love the way they sound and play very fender and very surf, each model is named after a 60's ca. surf spot, the new ones are also cool guitars the next step, would love one of those too.............

Ah man. I just bought one of those Sonorans last year. I would have much prefered to have one of those graphics instead of my plain ol' natural model.

But the ad background graphic is leaning on The Endless Summer graphic by John van Hamersveld, created after he left Surfer magazine. Severson created ebnough great art for 10 guitars like that (and ten ads). Check out old Surfer mags on eBay.
