I just noticed that for the first time in a while there are now affordably-priced copies of the the Space Cossacks' two out-of-print CDs (Interstellar Stomp and Tsar Wars) available on Amazon. Check it out:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000006C8Z/ref=sr_1_olp_3?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1220374945&sr=1-3
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00004TIOE/ref=sr_1_olp_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1220374945&sr=1-2
(BTW, I'm not selling these - I just thought somebody might be interested in picking up some copies for less than $30-40, which is what they usually go for.)

I'm not familiar with the group, and there are no sound clips. What are they like?

They're absolutely amazing. Maybe the best - with the exception of one band that I can think of.
Sorry, the Space Cossacks is my old band. We were active from '96 until '00, from Washington, DC. The prominent influences were the Atlantics, the Shadows, the Ventures and Dick Dale. I think you can hear a few (lo-fi-quality) songs here: http://students.washington.edu/dobner/spacecossacks/index.html

Jake graciously hosted the old Space Cossacks site on his student account.

Now comeon...do I have to be the bad guy here and demand that anyone not familiar with the Space Cossacks be banned from SG101? Just kidding

Our drummer Conrad, who has a surf/rock radio show at:
http://www.kkcr.org gave me a CD called The Space Cossacks "Never Mind The Bolsheviks" that has 24 tracks of GREAT instro/surf music. I'd heard of them, but never did hear them and it's just a really good CD. I thought they were European cause it has that Shadows/Atlantics/Ventures thing going on with plenty of reverb. Maybe it's a comp of their two CD's? I don't know, but i'm listening to this CD a lot as i travel up to Hanalei twice a week to do shows. It's an hour and a half each way so i got plenty 'o time to listen!! GREAT stuff Ivan.

Doug and Jon, very glad to hear you were able to take advantage of these good prices! I hope you like the CDs.
If Ben checks this thread: even $17 for Interstellar Stomp is pretty damn good, and there are still two copies available. (Tsar Wars is back in the 'stratospheric price' category, it appears.)
Brian, re: Cossacks on myspace - maybe....
Ryan, the site, as Brian implied, is the Cossacks' old site that was slightly updated about three years ago and then stored on Jake Dobner's school account. It does have a lot of info on there, so I'm glad it's around. Thanks, Jake!
Guy, I/we don't own any of those recordings. They are owned by MuSick. I don't know why they haven't put them on iTunes yet. I'm sure it'll happen eventually.

Good man!
it's just a really good CD.
Thank you!

Well, I WAS born and raised in Europe....
Maybe it's a comp of their two CD's?
Correct. It does not contain all of the two albums - I think about half of each? It's got a few previously unreleased tracks, some singles-only tracks and some compilation-only tracks. It's just an overview of the Cossacks career.

Thank you very much, Ron! I really appreciate that. I have visions of stunningly beautiful nature on your hour and a half drive - I'm so glad that you think the music complements Hawaii's natural beauty! (If you like the Cossacks, please also check out my current band the Madeira, if you haven't already.)

Ivan,
re: iTunes
I would suggest it strongly to Art and then he'll do it. Otherwise...
Also, if you get a Myspace page, you can post songs through Snowcap and sell them there for 99 cents a pop. We've done pretty well with it-it's worth the time to set it up. Oh, and you'll meet lots of new, swell friends .

Well that explains that!! Thanks Ivan and i will check out The Medeira that i've heard SO much about on this website. It's hard to find any kind of surf music over here...yeah, we have a Borders but they really only order reggae/Jawaiian which is the prefered sound of the troubled local youth!! Nah, reggae is cool and my whole career was based around reggae music:
http://www.myspace.com/theshakersreggaeband
http://www.myspace.com/koloadublab i'm not to keen on ordering stuff off the internet...my wife is afraid someone is going to steal the $14 we have in our savings account!! But i'll convince her that i NEED The Medeira!!

That would be the record label Ivan and the rest of the Space Cossacks were on for all their releases.
