It's a cool video. But its one of those things that makes me think "What the hell was he looking for when he ran into that?". Can folks who don't live on a farm keep a lil' goat? Those things are funny. Its cool when he's running across all those oulders. — |

Too cool, that little guy is loving life. Goats are cool until they eat your house and half of your car. —Don |

Yes, you can keep a pygmy goat like this in your backyard, but goats - esp. males (go figure!) stink. You can get their "scent glands" removed. They are great for keeping down weeds and stuff, but do need exercise and attention. Are very cool animals and great pets if you take care of them. Ever looked into a goat's eyes? The pupils are rectangular. It's a bit creepy. No wonder one of Satan's forms is a goat...... maybe that's why Ted was searchin' |

Why do I keep getting drawn back to this video!? I guess it's just fun to watch how happy this little goat is. I'm wowed by his incessant need to jump around... Plus the song rocks. I'm gonna nerd out for a bit, so turn away if that makes you squeamish.
Just thinking out loud: I know some species of vine snakes have the same deal with their pupils, supposedly for better depth perception maneuvering through branches. I wonder if domestic goats' eyes are like that as an evolutionary layover from traversing difficult terrain and needing a precise view of where they step. I really don't know, but whatever the reason, it's cool that their eyes look like that.
More goat physiology nerdiness: I read this a long time ago, and I hope I've remembered it correctly, but lots of goats have these finger-like protrusions from the sides of their necks... ... that are supposedly something like vestigial ears. As chordates, goats (as do we) have pharyngeal gill slits in early embryonic development that eventually fuse to form parts of the jaw and skull. Where they don't fuse, that's where our ears develop and protrude from our heads. Sometimes in goats a second pair of slits fails to fuse, and that's when those nodules develop. They don't develop into functional ears, but there's still some genetic cue that causes flesh to grow out from there. Weeird... |

I have a double ear lobe on my right ear that my doctor has always told me was the remnant of my pharyngeal gill. Now, let's get back to the video and check on that little guy. —http://www.satanspilgrims.com |
