I was in GC the other day testing the standard stock. Played some decent Tele's and a Fender '51, but was not impressed until I saw a Schecter Ultra III. I was completely blown away. Three Duncan Humbys, Bigsby vibrato, 3 ways for each pu.
Has anyone else played or own this axe?
I am comparison shopping, but have not found a Fender Jaguar HH available to play yet. Any thoughts on either rig I would appreciate it

I played the one displayed, but I asked the Rep there if they can order the Wine colored with Black pick guards instead of the stock white. That would be a sweet looking rig! My other option would be to get a new Jagmaster and upgrade to decent single coils

Or save $400 more and get an American RI Jazzmaster or Jag of ebay.
It'd be well worth it.

Now you're talking! I am hunting one out as we speak. I am also looking into the Toronado and Cyclone's.

Krupanut is right. You'll like your guitar just fine until you pick up someone's AVRI Jag/JM. Save more $$$ or use your credit card and make auto-payments, and get the real thing.

I have been lurking around on EBAY keeping my eye on Schecter Ultra IIIs when they appear...the body shape is so cool, and I really dig the Bigsby-clone. I believe the UltraIII is made in Korea, but it is a groovy guitar. I'm sure the HumBuckers won't provide 100% pure "surftone", but the Bigsby should work well...
the only thing I don't like about the UltraIII is the pointy-V-shaped headstock...
but, if I can find one at a bargain price, I might be going for one...
I like the odd-ball guitars, they seem to do fine for surf, as long as yo don't have too restrictive sound aesthetics...

Same here, don't know why they'd put 3x3 tuners on it.

here's a cool review of the UltraIII at the GuitarPlayer Magazine site:

each of the humbuckers has a coil-tap: so, I guess you could get a triple-single-coil sound out of the UltraIII.

I think they run 3X3 tuners because the tuners are nice grovers

I think the Ultra IIIs have mahagony bodies, which is not in the surf ballpark, although itâs a good combo with the humbuckers and the set neck for rock, blues and jazz.
If these were the only ones you liked, imagine a ton of reverb poored over the dry guitar sound. I got rid of a â75 Gretsch CountryRok, which I still consider one of the better sounding guitars ever made. But it was not of much use with a real surf reverb. I had to get a Fender.
My 2 cents.

I played one at GC not too long ago. It was decent. I played it through a Hot Rod Deville with the Reverb at about 7. The on off switches for each pick up did make for some tone options. It doesn't have the bite of single coils. But the overall feel and balance of the guitar was nice. The Bigsby left me not impressed on the one I played. The spring was really mushy and there was barely a 1/2 step drop when it was fully pressed.
This guitar would be great for a garage, punk or pyschobilly band. It gets away with working in surf. But you will have to tweak the eq on your amp to get twang to come through.
Or you could get it and mod it later with Seymour Duncan P-90s or something similiar.
Just my thoughts on the guitar. But there was Surf Green MIA Jag RI sitting behind the counter staring at me the whole time. So I had a hard time really focusing on the Schecter.

I used to play with a guitarist using a Toronado. It's a sweet looking guitar sounded nice. It wasn't playing surf, but it had a great tone coming out of a Fender Twin Reverb.

Well I did some budgeting and have $1000 to spend on a guitar, amp and accessories. I liked this guitar, but from what all of you have said and what I am looking to get started with it think there are some better options.
What are your opinions on these:
DiPinto Mach IV
Wilson Bros Vm110 and VM75
Eastwood Sidejack DLX
Of all of these, I think I would like to play them, but as far as what I have heard, the Wilson Bros VM110 sounds like the best option. But I have not played any of these yet and I would like to know what you think!
Buying one of these will give me about $400 for an amp. Any suggestions for a good amp in that range??
Thanks again!

So you want a mosrite-look? I like that too, but canât report on those guitars.
But recently I saw a live video on YouTube and this one guy played DiPinto Galaxie 4, and the sound blew me away, really, really great. But I donât like the look that much.

I've only played the DiPinto, and it was an okay guitar, but I can't say I'm a humbucker person. Also, I have a Galaxie 4 and while it seemed pretty 'sweet' in the shop, I am not a impressed anymore - poor pick ups (noisey), bad nut and it's hard to adjust the bridge.
