I went ahead and purchased a set of Gretsch Catalina MOD drums today, I got the ones in the Black Diamond Pearl finish, I am really stoked!! I also risked a sure divorce situation, and bought a New "A" Zildian 21" Sweet ride, and a new Set of 14" "A" Zildjian New Beat Hi Hats. OOPS!! Sorry Honey!! I just Couldnt resist! They should be here Monday or Tuesday, Ill post some pics! Hey man, How's that Sweet Ride? and The New Beats? Do they sound good? Hey Jake what kinda Kit is it? The Sweet ride is great, it has a nice "ping" but also very crashable. The New Beats are also nice. Very crisp, and tight. Here are some pics of the Kit. This pic is when I first got them, I have since replaced the heads, with Remo Controlled sound Black Dots, and an emperor x on the snare. Top

Unless it has an 18" bass drum, a 60s jazz kit would be a good surf drum kit. Hell, even if it had an 18" bass drum, I still wouldn't get rid of it. Top

Remo Skyntone heads on batter and resonant sides. Fiberskyn on BD resonant head (also not pictured -- guess I need some new pictures!). Personally, I can't recommend the new Catalinas enough for look, tone, portability and yes, quality. The right heads and tuning make a world of difference. It's an 18" BD, but it's packs a wallop. LOL '65 Club Dates (20, 12, 14, Pioneer 6-lug snare)... remo coated ambassadors on batter and resonant side of all drums. Ride is an 18" Sabian El Sabor... not vintage but really sounds the part. These drums used to serve double-duty with my rockabilly gig, but I scored a 2nd set of these EXACT drums in bronze mist lacquer for playing in Straight 8s. I play them in a slightly different configuration, so I'm stoked to have a dedicated surf kit. I'm planning to replace most of the pictured hardware with the throwback style Atlas flat-based stands. All of the "vibe" without stripped wing-nuts and wobbly tilters of the originals. Posted on Apr 14 2016 04:55 PM My modest Sonor Bop kit. 18" Kick 12" Rack 14" Floor 14 x 6.5 snare, usually my '70's Acrolite is in place '50's Zildjian 18" Crash Ride (All I really need) '70's Zildjian 20" Ride '70's Zildjian New Beat Hats It's a great kit for our small room and records well. Saying I play drums is very generous of you. I've banged out some beats on a few of our singles and yes, the 2015 Comp, but I barely make it through that material and the songs would be better with an actual drummer. It is fun to mess around with though and in the last two years I've progressed from horrendous to just plain bad on drums and - I'm having fun! We still want a real drummer though. I used to think I could play drums and then I thought, "you should be practicing your guitar more Yngwie" Wise advice. I should get away from those poor drums and practice my actual instrument, Ha Ha.
