The Surfites - Escapades In Space CD

The Surfites are one of the most popular bands on Double Crown Records, thanks to their high energy, traditional Southern California sound, although they come from the far-away country of Sweden! Big Pounder had the reverb-drenched surf n' hot rod sound that aficionados all over the world have raved about. After conquering Earth with their sound, they have turned their attention to other planets and galaxies. Escapades In Space is a 15 song interstellar romp, taking their sound into brand new dimensions!

Order direct from Double Crown and get a free Surfites sticker (while supplies last!)

Tracks: Launch Pad - Comet's Tail - Space Mover - Moon Buggy - Little Rocket Mill - Rainy Days In Space - Around The Galaxy - Danger Ahead - Space Encounter - Far & Beyond - Marching Robots - Mercurian Stomp - Space Coach - Moon Made - Planetary Stroll.

The Surfites - Escapades In Space CD - #DCCD31 - $12.75

Been looking forward to this one. Klas, the new cut you posted is great! I think that this one will be coming to me automatically as part of the Double Crown Music Club membership? Anyway, that was all part of my master plan.

Also just wanted a chance to say that it has been a pleasure dealing with Sean at DC. The new Madeira came with lots of stickers and the latest Continental surf compilation thrown in as well! Nice to do business with a forum member and someone who does so much to get the best surf/instro/garage music into our hot little hands.

Agree completely. Sean is a gentleman and a scholar.

The CD's are in and I'm shipping them as fast as I can to folks that have pre-ordered it and Double Crown Music Club members. I got the most important packages off today though - the discs going down to California for the SG101 fest (Lee Dionysus will selling a whole bunch of Double Crown stuff at the fest), the Surfites CD's and I also got a package off to CD Baby, so it should be on their "shelves" in a few days. I'll be working hard to get the rest out over the next few days.

If you haven't ordered yet, you can go to the Double Crown website.

Use coupon code AUGUST15 to take 15% off any order over $15.00.

and
Thanks to Lee for doing that too,

Yay just finished ordering my copy Very Happy can't wait to listen to it

I just noticed that the album is now up on CD Baby with sound samples for all 15 tracks. We haven't got our CDs yet so it was a bit of a relief to hear everything appearing to sound as it should (the broadband samples actually sounds really good).

Listening to it right now as I type.
I have to say that some tracks are just beautiful, and a couple are a little jarring at first, but I'm assuming that was the effect you were going for.

diggin it alot,
cheers. Cheers

Haha, only on "Marching Robots" I think unless we have gone completely tone deaf. Maybe you were also thinking about some of the piano arrangements that was done in the vein of Joe Meek sideman, the great Geoff Goddard with a slightly disharmonic touch for that full outer space experience!

Thanks everyone who have bought the album so far, we hope you're enjoying it!

I bought this one at the sg101 convention and I'm really digging it a lot! I really like the couple of tunes w/ fuzz on them. Great Job!

Cool that you liked the fuzz. I think those songs turned out pretty cool myself. We used a Maestro Fuzz-Tone reissue and got totally different sounds depending on guitar used, with one song played on a Mosrite (Danger Ahead) and the other on a Jazzmaster (Comet's Tail).

I'm so glad there are The Surfites . . . I really need this music and it is thrilling to have more of it. I can't imagine any surf music fan not having both albums. I thought that Big Pounder would be very tough follow, but this new one promises to be even better. It has all the great sounds of the first album with (as mentioned elsewhere) the addition of fuzz guitar and organ and other cool things. The organ makes me think of The Tornados and is perfect for the space related theme. I liked the remake of Surf Encounter from their first album done as "Space Encounter" here. Very clever and serves to add coherence to the two albums. The attention to detail in the packaging was one of my favorite things about the first album and continues here as well. I really dig the vintage NASA photos with the Surfites cartoon characters pasted in. The Surfites manage to be serious about the music without sacrificing the fun. To my mind, no one today gets more out of simple melodies since the first wave than this band. They seem to understand as not every band does, that it's all about the sound and imaginative arrangements, not necessarily complexity. The Surfites are right there among the top of my favorite groups today.
