Did you get rid of the cover?
I have volume 2 (Pipeline, Wipe Out, Out Of Limits, Let's Go!) since a long time but just got volume 3. This is a really fun series where you at the end of each lesson is invited to play along with the Ventures on either bass, rhythm or lead guitar.

Seriously, that must be one of the worst front covers in surf music history ever. Reminds me of the Bitch Boys' cigar smoking banana album.

I just got in Martin Cilia's Revenge of the Surf Guitar and, as Phil Dirt said, wow! I must admit that I've loved all of the Atlantics stuff that he's played lead on, although the Point Zero CD had somewhat questionable recording quality. His guitar tone is much more in the trad mold since (I believe) he's using a Jag on everything. It's very clean. I also got the backing tracks CD of this and am looking forward to (attempting) to playing along with it.

Sheeeesh you guys are tough,
I'll admit its not a cool 60's surf album cover..
but when those came out in the 80's that was how surf art looked. if they had put old school artwork on them they probably wouldn't have sold at all.
as for me moving back to So. Cal in 81 and going to the beach alot,
Those images bring back that time to me.

I know it was released in the horrible looking 80's but that doesn't change it's still must be one of the worst looking album covers in surf music history. Rhino Records have always appeared somewhat clueless to me.
Jon & The Nightriders on the other hand, managed to put cool looking artwork on their Splashback 12 inch EP from the same year.

Sometimes I'm really glad I was born in '82, and therefore do not remember anything about 80's fashion and design.

sorry of topic,
do I look like I follow fashion trends?
My dad wore 50's jeans and white t-shirts in the 70's. so he was my fasion leader, in that you don't have to fall prey to the Polyester Police.

You look straight out of an Abercrombie & Fitch ad.

That's the nice way of saying that you could quite possibly resemble a lumberjack......i think.

I didn't find most of the included instros that interesting with the exception of the Steve Douglas penned "Ditch Day" which is totally great. Most of the vocals are really good though I think.

Cool - thanks for the heads up. It hasn't arrived yet, but I'll try not to get my hopes up.

It's a great CD and you won't be disappointed if you like Gary Usher type of vocals.

I really dug most of The Kickstands' stuff - The Knights, not so much. Recently I bought more albums with terrible cover art: The History of Surf Music Vol. 3, and this one:

At least the photo is cool. Not too surprising to discover it was released on Jerden, as they usually fall a bit short in the cover making department.
