Here she is. I don't know that I will ever paint another guitar again. I used 4 1/2 cans of Minwax Nitrocellulose to make sure my worst fear of sanding through to the paint wouldn't happen and it didn't.
For those of you with an eye for detail may notice, my S3 # is 023, but I put 027 on the head stock because that was/is Rip's number, and this was his guitar. btw, the old boy would have been 40 this Friday so hoist a drink if you're so inclined.
I also put a 1/4 turn on the truss rod and lowered the poles on the bridge by a 1/2 turn. The action is really nice now. If you read my earlier post, you know I screwed up the wiring. It should be out of the shop by the weekend so I'll be able to plug it in and see how she sounds.

As the owner of two black Fenders myself (a Jazzmaster and a Stratacoustic, which are the only two guitars I own) and as a devotee/friend/acolyte of Rip's, I heartily approve your handiwork!!

I'm eagerly lookin' forward to seein' this axe in action on July 29. As for the electronics, either Bryan Lilje or Eddie Katcher can straighten out the crossed wires for ya in a jiffy.
Oh, and I plan on raisin' many a glass this Friday!

What prompted you to paint it in the first place?
I saw one on ebay with a similar paint job and red pick guard and thought it was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen (besides a Rickenbacker) I didn't have the extra $ at the time and after the auction ended I searched and searched the internet for another Jag with that paint scheme and never found one.
I'm not a big fan of the sunburst paint scheme so I finally figured I could just refinish the one I already have.
As for the logo, I still have my first guitar which was a $100 Telecaster Custom knock off with no decal on the Headstock. I had the idea years ago to put a 'Twangler' logo on it. So, when I started this project, I figured I'd do it on this one. I'm egotistical enough to like my name on the guitar I play better than Leo Fender's, even if he is responsible for creating the guitar in the first place.

Considering I've had the guitar torn apart for about 6 weeks unable to play, the 29th might be an interesting endeavor. (grin)

I'm not a big fan of sun burst either, That black and red is beautiful. Looks like a classic black car with red interior.

That Jaguar is an import model right? So the original finish is poly-urethane hmmm....
I've often times thought about refinishing a few of my guitars that have poly finishes but have been told stripping poly is like pulling teeth. Did you actually strip the old finish or just paint on top of the original, and if you just painted on top of the original how did the intial coats stick to that?

It is a Jap reis. It had the lamanent finish so I scpraped it off with the help of a heat gun. Worked really well. The only trouble spots were around the edges where I guess they use more adhesive.
So I took it straight down to the wood and started from there.

Yes, I will be using it on the 29th. I picked it up from the shop yesterday afternoon and it plays like a champ. The problem now is I have to rebuild the caluses on my finger tips after not playing for over a month!

It looks great. As for your calusses. You should be somewhat fine without playing for a month. I didn't play for 4 months and that was hell getting them back.
