appreciate the Labor Day Holiday Weekend crowd we had last evening at OTTO's

it was a true party goin' on, dancin' galore, especially from HANG DADDY who brought their own go-go girls!!!

UNSTEADY FREDDIE (and Frank Wood)

Unsteady Freddie was in great spirits on Sunday having just returned from the Drive In Invasion in Atlanta, GA. How does he do it? A true Renaissance man is he. And what can I say about Frank Wood. He is his own man, self made, charismatic and knows how to put on a helluva show. Together they are Unsteady Wood. Earlier in the day Strange But Surf played and original tune that pays homage to Otto’s and the promoters who put together such fine shows there.

I was glad to get to Otto’s in time to see Venice Beach Muscle Club before their set began. It has been such a long time since I have seen this band and they have a new bass player who was able to keep up with Todd on the da’ skins. Very impressive, as Todd is fast and very skilled. It was equally lovely to see and chat with Melina about baby Zola who will be ready to dance on her own any day now. Evan was in fine form playing the standards and original with his own unique style. Congratulations on the addition to his family too! The set ended with an encore that included White Rabbit. Played with tons of reverb, it was beautiful and haunting.

You know what was also beautiful? The dancers that were hangin’ with Hang Daddy. And the four guys backing them up were rockin’ as well. Great band, great look and a great addition to NESMA. I actually had to close my eyes at one point so I could concentrate on the music. However, not single guy took their eyes of off the go go dancers. Are they from Joisey or NYC? Not sure, but for sure they were outta this world on Sunday night. They play hard and fast surf, never letting up and never slowing down. For a peek at what you missed check their website hangdaddy.com
and their video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hS3pTLluEQc

From the newest NESMA band to the founders of NESMA www.nesmasurf.org – 9th Wave making yet another appearance at Otto’s Shrunken Head. This was their second time at Otto’s in a week and the audience just can’t get enough of the hottest hot rod surf on the East Coast. The room continued to fill up and there was barely room to dance as Staccato Rosado, Oceana, Negative Ed and Phearsome Phred played another fast and furious set. I think that Otto’s should create one of their special tiki drinks to immortalize 9th Wave. It would have to be served chilled, shaken up, served in a hurricane glass and lit on fire! ‘Cause that how they roll.

The last surf band to hit the Beach “Ball” was The Sea Devils all the way from Brooklyn. They are a fine trad 4-piece who has been around for almost a decade. The Sea Devils were obviously having fun while ripping up floor boards at Otto’s. And what little floor there is at Otto’s was covered with dancing folks. The newest member of the Sea Devils is none other than Todd Martin. You may remember him from earlier as part of Venice Beach Muscle Club. Michael, Andrew and Martin joined in with Todd to thrash and burn. You must hear their tune the Wave of Destruction at www.myspace.com/seadevilsnyc

And now I must go back to my day job kiddies, where I live the quiet unassuming life of a typical office worker. Typical that is until I once again put in my white go go boots and become….BLUE STINGRAYE, righter of wrongs, fighter for truth, justice and reverb baby!

Aloha and out,

What day is Surf Rock's birthday? Looks like Surf Rock and I was born the same year. Maybe we are both Libras?

I'm just a Hodad, but here is the correct title for the 9W CUSTOMIZED video.
