Permalink Best technique for the slide

I am still on my quest to perfect the classic surf slide, a'la the Ventures on Pipeline.

While its ok, it could be a LOT better...what sort of technique(s) do you guys use to make it work?

I turn my pick slightly up to use the side instead of the flat face flat on.
Start practicing slow cadance, and work up from there. Sort of like a drum roll. If you want to get really accurate use a metrodone to count strokes. Up dpwn up dpwn, an so on. Speed up and keep working at it, practice makes perfect.
I also use an older pick when I can. One with a rounded tip. grip it close to the rounded tip, and it slides easier that way. The picks I use for everything are the Dunlop Gels Standard mediums. (purple, because they match my car Razz WR)

But I bet almost everyone will have a different method.

Joel

Thanks Joel...as I am an inherent tinkerer, I will probably try everything everyone mentions! hehehee

Try them all, use what works...kind of like your salad bar.

Hmmm uh dutch---its kinda like a male masturbation technique---right hand holds the pick and vigorously moves the pick against the strings in an alternating manner. works on any given string . left hand on the 12th or 14th or whatever fret you choose and slide the hand towards the peghead of the guitar at the same time. i understand it works well when done lefty if you are lefthanded. i'm sorry, i couldn't let this one pass by. its really just a natural thing. i'll be quiet now. peace wank wank wank
