Permalink Speakers -- CELESTION OR WEBERS?

New Topic

Some input if someone can.... I have a BEDROCK BC-75 that I need to clean up sound-wise. The stock speakers that came with it are either crappy sounding or shot - doesn't really make a difference.

Rather than put 2 JBL D120s in it, I was considering NEW (gasp!!) speakers. I looked at the Celestion Gold Alnicos and the Weber California 12s as replacements. The Webers advertise the Californias as good JBL replacements.
Was it your opinion?? Any experience with either speaker? I want CLEAR sound and lots of headroom at high volume. I'll probably put Ruby Tubes EL34STRs in the amp for added clarity. I want to see what this BC-75 amp will do. I have several blackface Showmans with 6L6s and JBLs.. looking for variety and stuff.
Comments...?

Johnny M:

I have experience with Webers and Celestions.

The WEBER California' 12s have the clean loud sound you're looking for.

The Celestions have a slightly grunge-y British sort of sound: think early-Who. The Celestions break up a bit at higher volumes.

Choose WEBER...you'll be glad you did.

yea the webers are phenominal for clean surf sound, although if your looking for something different from the showman i would probobly go with either the celestions or maybe one of the other high powered webers, i dont know much about them, but judging from the awsome quality of my californias i would guess that they are pretty sweet

Johnny,

Ditto on the Weber California 12's...I replaced the crappy/worn out stock Fender speakers in two of my amps with these, and they are super clean and loud. Supposedly the less expensive ceramic version has a bit more headroom. I have a alnico Cali 12 in a Deluxe Reverb and a ceramic Cali 15 in a Vibrasonic. I'd recommend that you opt for the aluminum dome, as it gives a brighter sound than the paper ones. The Cali 15 in my Vibrasonic will take your head off. In a good way.

My Dual Showman bass rig currently has EV bass speakers in it, but I am converting it back to a guitar amp. I'm going to use the Weber California ceramic 15's in it. Can't wait to hook up the tank and crank it up!

I put two 12" Tone Tubby's in my 65 Bandmaster (hemp cones!).... I'm VERY happy. They are great speakers - full spectrum from crisp Fender highs to clean punchy lows. Their Alnico 15" would kick ass in a Showman.... read up on them at their web site......

Ted Weber makes excellent speakers. For the money, the Cali high-power series speakers simply rule for surf. I have a pair of the ceramics in my Blackfaced Twin (12s), and used one in my Hot Rod Deluxe. I also used a Signature Series 10" in a little Epiphone. I was happy with every speaker.
