Just found this little note in my inbox, thought I'd pass it along...
A MESSAGE FROM LAIKA & THE COSMONAUTS
There sometimes comes a time in a band's career when things are still great, but you can sense that the natural lifespan is nearing the end. It´s nobody´s fault, there´s no reason for it, it just happens. That´s where we are with Laika & The Cosmonauts now. We love the band & music and are very proud of all the gigs and records we´ve done. We don´t wanna our good career to go where we end up being a bored/boring bar band that plays too few gigs to keep it tight, with the same songs all the time and gradually keeps getting worse and worse and in the process start hating the music and each other. So...
.. when we release the compilation, it will be , not only to celebrate our 20th anniversary, but also to enhance the enjoyment of our farewell tour and make it an appropriate finale for the 20 year on the road - we intend to have fun and play great gigs! We´ll do as many shows as possible in Finland in august-november and then october in USA.
We´ll be playing the east coast, hopefully the west coast too and then play our final gigs at the Continental Club in Austin, our home away from home (oct 31st and nov 1st) and...after which we'll have a few beers and relax, you know...
THANK´S EVERYBODY! JOIN US FOR THE CELEBRATION!

I got this email as well. Sad news, but I understand. It's better to stop the band before it gets boring and uninspired. Laika and the Cosmonauts are the best surf-instro-guitar-organ-random band. I can't describe how much I love them.
I really REALLY hope they'll be able to make it out to the west coast, because I don't know if I can afford the flight out east.

bummer, but understandable.
I posted in the show announcements area that
I had heard rumor of a Halibuts reunion show, and Laika would be on the Bill.
might have to make a trip to Texas for the last show.

I am gonna try and catch as many of their US shows as I can
I have a SURF-ROCK SHINDIG November 1st but that doesn't mean I can't get to AUSTIN for October 31st, now...does it?
when someone gets 'official' confirmation' of the show with THE HALIBUTS, please post it .... better still, let me know off-line at schizofredric@yahoo.com

BOOOO HISSSS! When Local Warming was released, I kindof got the feeling that they were veering off course. I wish there was a way I could get out to see them

Yeah, this is definitely a bummer. But, you've got to appreciate how their making a very graceful exit. Definitely my favorite instrumental band of any genre and I love absolutely everything they ever put out. I hope they come somewhere close so I can finally see them live.

It's no quick drive from New Orleans to Austin, but for Laika a very doable one. Glad they decided to end it this way

What a freakin bummer! I really wish we could get them to play a show in the mid-west.Maybe Chicago or somewhere like that.I personally like there live album almost better than any of there studio releases.
You know i am very ashamed to say I actually have a close personal friend who had the nerve to trade in a Laika and the Cosmonauts CD I never want to slap my friend, but i did then.
Anyone how is lucky enough to see these guys is a very lucky person
