No, I was able to get a line on authentic Fender grill cloth...I decided to go with that because outside of the logo, I wanted something that was real Fender...
Hey, the tiltback legs have the Fender logo on them...what more do you want? Looks-wise the Mojo grillcloth seems to be a perfect match...it doesn't feel as heavy duty as the 'real' Fender grillcloth though so if you got the real deal that's great!

Looks super. Glad youre smiling so much.
Ill soon be building myself a cabinet and Im still thinking about exactly how I want it to look. It wont be a Fender look-a-like but something pretty different. Not sure what to have the front cloth look like or have over it.
Are you worried about someone accidentally putting a foot through the front of the cabinet and doing some damage to a speaker or the cloth? Im trying to think about how I want to protect the front of the cabinet. Maybe a metal grate behind the front cloth would be a decent idea.
And how did you fasten the insulation to the wood?

the metal grate isnt a bad idea, however i've never ever EVER had that problem grillcloth has always been enough to protect my speakers. i would be pretty paranoid without it, that stuff is pretty tough! in order to actually touch the speakers, you'd have to kick pretty hard, hard enough to rip the grill cloth as i don't think it would stretch that far.

You inspired me to complete a Bandmaster project I had sitting in the garage.
I bought a '66 Bandmaster from an SG101 Member and wanted to have a blonde cabinet to match an after-market speaker cab I picked up cheap off craigslist. But the black tolex on the Bandmaster was in pretty good shape, so I purchased a beat up '68 Bandmaster cab off ebay for $60 and decided to re-tolex it and switch out the innards:
Here is a pic of the '68 cabinet, sanded and sealed:

Now for the "switch";

I put a 15" Eminence Commonwealth in the speaker cab and it sounds great. I know the "purists" may critique the non-vintage look/restoration, but it fits in my noodler's corner and I wasn't trying to do a vintage restoration. I can now store the '66 head cab in a safe place and later buy a vintage Fender black 2X12 speaker cab to match the original head.

AWESOME JOB!!
I was watching an auction on E-Bay for a head cab as well, just as so I could do the same thing. I really need to put that idea out of my head as if I think on it too long, I'll frakkin' do it.
REAAAAALY don't want to lay out that amount of cash again...did it once and it was fun as hell getting it together...almost fun enough to justify the money...hummm...yea...yea...almost.
On a similar yet different note:
Had our first band practice this weekend and used my Bandmaster for the first time- SOUNDED SWEET!! I am really happy with the whole rig...not playing anything else at this point!

Stormtiger asked: "Do you get out and play?"
Nope--I mostly watch. When I first started learning guitar a little over a year ago, my wife asked: "Who do you plan to play for?" and I said: "Me, of course."
I'm truly what the pros on this site would call a no talent "hack," "bedroom picker" and "noodler." When I make a mistake on a song, it's a goof; but when I make the same mistake twice, then it's "jazz."
Most of the guys here will think the gear is wasted on me--and they'd be right. I'm like that old fart that buys a Corvette and then putt-putts up and down PCH. I should have some real musician's over so they can play my stuff, break in the speakers, and show me how it's supposed to sound.

So you are hosting the first Malibu Sound Check? I'll bet your wife would love that. That new amp deserves to played soon, along with my Bassman that I haven't even played yet since I had it re-tubed.

If you're using and enjoying it, and it inspires you to pick up your guitar and play it, it's not wasted.
Great job, by the way. Both of you guys are full of talent. I'll know who to turn to for advice when I build and/or restore my next cabinet. Very nice!
