I also assumed everyone had more than two! I honestly have all these as they really do sound different from each other and being a solo recording artist I use them all to round out the sound. Here's the family photo with reviews: |

Well for my paltry collection (compared to some others here) I'm a plumber by day and charge like a wounded bull to cover my 'artistic' side. That'll be $94.67 thanks! |

Well - it was going to happen one day, so it may as well be now...(OK. here goes) (breathes deeply) I don't have a Fender or a Gibson. Instead, I have one AXL Strat copy, a Suzuki Bass, an Ashton steel string acoustic, a Yamaha nylon string acoustic, an 12 string acoustic called a 'graham' which has been a six string for years. Oh, and I have a Mandola which my grandpa gave me, and he got it from a Greek sailor. I love them and they love me -we're all good friends and we like to play together...making humble but beauuuuuutiful music Tim O |

"where does everybody find the cash?" Rio, just have a job and buy a guitar every few years and suddenly before you know it you are middle-aged and have a dozen of 'em. Hmm. Somehow that doesn't make up for the being middle-aged part. — |

Jeezus, I didn't know how many I had until I started listing them all. Here goes . . . (as if anyone really cares) ELECTRICS ACOUSTICS Amps: black-face Twin Reverb (re-issue), a Blues Junior, and a Pig Nose. I also own a 1959 Hammond M-3 Organ, plus a plethora of other keyboards, accordions, horns, drums, percussion. I did not include home-made instruments, or flea market wall hangers costing less than $30. —Matt Crunk Founder: North Alabama Surf Alliance (NASA) |

Let me see if I can keep the list straight in my head. 21 guitars of all shapes and sizes
Why do I have so many? First, I am a gear whore. Second, I have sentimental attachments to the cheapo guitars, and financial attachments to the expensive/rare ones. Plus, I play a lot of various styles of music here and there, so I like to have a setup that is suited for whatever I want. AMPS I've also got a slew of effects, speakers, a mini PA system, all that jazz. |

Well, I'll add that this garage full o' gear has been building up for nearly twenty years now. Plus, at least five of my guitars have been given to me for free. And apparently I have one more freebie on the way. ~B~ |

Yup, I've got it bad. Since the last time I posted, my collection has gone to 20, with the addition of a Fender FSR Straight Six Stratocaster, and I've ordered a Fender Standard Stratocaster (Electron Blue/rosewood) that I'm going to convert to a Double Fat Strat. The new pickguard arrived today, and the Strat will arrive sometime Monday afternoon. Still need to order new pickups (Fender Atomic Humbuckers - white bobbins), as well as new pots (3x 500K in the Standard Stratocaster HH). I keep telling myself that as soon as I have my lap steel and electric 12-string, my collection will be complete. Those two would put my total to 22. Since I'll be dabbling in more areas than strictly surf instrumentals, I'm fairly well covered for choices. Matt —Fast Cars & Loud Guitars! |

I hear ya. My reflexes aren't what they used to be, and my playing is way slower and clumsier now. "... buy a guitar every few years ..." - The oldest one in my collection is the Yamaha FG-160, and that goes back to something like 1973. I think I've shown remarkable restraint. —I'm not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing. |

What gets played now - the Godin Velocity through the Dual Showman Reverb 135 + 412 cab + FRI tank. Or for being quiet at home I just play through my Roland Mico cube RX with the reverb cranked. Oh, its fun for anything crunchy too. Perfect practice amp. This other stuff was loved during previous musical formations but are all in various stages of collecting dust: Les Paul style Ibanez, Fender Deluxe DeVille, Martin 018 (sweet sounding and just the right size for me), 12 string Takamine (the Leo Kotke influence), a handbuilt classical guitar from my 20s for when I was enraptured with lute music, a travel mandolin from my celtic focus days, a penny whistle or two and my grandpa's beautiful fiddle which he got in SF when he was five. We just got a rehersal space where we are going to set up the dualie, deville and tank with a friend's old drum kit, a steel drum and god knows what else we can cram in the space. In the studio we also have my friends old solid state Randall keyboard amp with a basic Fender keyboard until we can get the Roland out of storage. So far we just have one mic. I used to sing but never really thought it was that much fun. But running it through the reverb channel is so fun, I might get back into it. Peaceful easy feeling done slow enough with layers of reverb is very watery. I am hoping my friend that was a hot sax player will put hers out of the attic and remember how much fun it is. Oh yeah, also plenty of hand drums are coming - can't be helped, this is Santa Cruz after all. Previous guitars I have loved and let pass from my hands were a Gretch Tennessean (played through some ancient smaller Fender tube amp that had a broken reverb channel) - from my jazz phase, and a gnarly Gibson Les Paul "The Paul" that I played though a badass Peavy stack - from my thrashy punk phase. Both were such fine playing riggs but then I move into my acoustic phase (about 20 years ago) and figured if I ever got the bug to rock again I would start over... |
