Our humble combo recently lost (then gained) some new members. So we thought it high time to record what we sound like nowadays. The mixing is pretty well done and now we master.

Prior to the pro-level sonic treatment, I had access to the individual raw tracks so I fiddled with the knobs on my PC and came up with this nonsense:

Undertow

All opinions welcome. I will leave this up for bit.

Thanks. Be merciless, though. I can hear all the bad stuff, of course, and wonder if anyone else can. From such well-trained ears, genuine opinions are important.

Joelman, we have 4 guys in the band.

The reality is that we do not wash our own laundry - it just gets dirtier.

The reverb is a custom built unit by a guy named Walt Campbell. Point to point wired and all that. With a tube rectifier. I have mentioned this in a thread before. He charges $475. Mine is actually the one pictured in this page:CAMPBELL SOUND.

You can get any kind of Tolex if looks are important. he calls it a Blues Reverb. No idea why, it is a G615 clone.

I actually thought I had too much reverb and wished I had dialed it down a tad.

The guitar gear is pretty standard stuff:

Jaguar (rhythm) -> reverb -> (a touch of) Keeley Mod Boss BD-2 -> Twin Reverb Custom 15 -> Shure Beta57 (close-miked at edge of dustcap)

Jazzmaster (lead) -> Hot Rod Deluxe 212 (I think?) -> Shure SM57 (close-miked at center of cone)

Really the whole affair was pretty low tech. We recorded live, up in the ponderosa forest in our woodframe cabin, obviously in close quarters, mic-bleed-be-damned, drinking schnapps, all 86 takes in a single day from morning 'til night. Then we lit a bonfire, drank beer, and told lies. A good time and the tracks hopefully will reflect that.

Love the drip!

I like it very much, a little more clarity would be great but it's really good anyway.

Looks like it was a lot of fun and sounds pretty good.

... a little more clarity would be great ...

Yeah, maybe that was it. Possibly too much drums in the mix? Pan the lead guitar a bit closer to the centre of the stereo image?

Bite your tongue!

I'm not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing.
