Hey Gang
Besides a sample of the music and contact information, what else should be included in a "press kit".
Thanks, reverbmike

i have seen in some press kits, a band disography or bio. Usaully information about upcoming gigs or tours is common. Also stickers, posters, and other free goodies are a wise idea.

....DVD of live performances comes to mind. I was made aware of this years ago. I'm sure it's the norm now.

Decent photos... good...
Crappy photos... bad

some things commonly found in "press kits""

professional black and white artist photos. "press ready" 8x10 size

three song demo cd (most people don't listen to more than three tunes)

group biography, cd release information, upcoming gig information, "press ready" promotional information

contact information, booking agent information, label information

previous gig/cd reviews from noted reviewers

advertisements or poster artwork

stickers or other band give-away "schwag"

a dvd sounds logical, but keep it short and sweet

internet/web presence information

email contact info

in the olden-days...bands such as the Ventures and Dick Dale even had "canned" open-ended-live-interview-responses...local dj's could "interview" the Ventures and then play their responses off of a record. It would be kind of cool to provide an "open-ended" dj interview in a press kit...now that would be vintage surf!
